GANYC President Michael Morgenthal is here at the MTA Staycation Showcase in Grand Central’s Vanderbilt Hall. The showcase runs today until 3pm. if you’re in the area, come say hi! Among many great New York region options, we are proud to showcase the amazing tours offered by our 350+ members. 🗽

Last Fall, GANYC traveled to Hart Island, just off the Bronx coast from City Island for a ranger-led tour of the southern end. This is the city’s public burial ground, and with a storied history. It is a space that retains deep meaning to many others.

GANYC held its May meeting at the Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center. We thank them for inviting us into this great space. Our main speaker was Ann Marie Gothard, co-founder of the visitor center, and Board Chair of Pride Live. Video will be on our YouTube within the next week.

GANYC guide Scott Wooledge provided fellow members with a great FAM tour of Brooklyn Bridge Park. Designed upon 85-acres of post-industrial shipping piers, Brooklyn Bridge Park creates space that is not only beautiful and useful to humans but has become an essential part of the NY Harbor biosphere.

Members Robin Garr + Jeremy Wilcox led a FAM the other day: "Thoroughly Modern Midtown Modified". From the 1930s up through the skyscrapers of today, the tour looks at some of the most influential and transformational skyscrapers of their day.

GANYC board member Daria Walcott gave her latest FAM tour this past week: "Grand Palaces of Retail Part 2: Rivalry, Riches & Spectacle in early 20th Century NYC". The tour was a continuation of the story of the great department stores of New York, and will begin with the year 1902 in Midtown West.

GANYC member George Tonkin led a members visit earlier this week to St. Paul's Church National Historic Site, just across the city lines in Mount Vernon NY. Since 1665, Saint Paul's Church played a vital role in the colonial life of Eastchester. Today it is a protected landmark.

GANYC member Ann McDermott was interviewed for Dutch TV for a long news story about the history of New Amsterdam, the 17th-century Dutch settlement in lower Manhattan. Video is online: npo.nl/start/afspel... (Ann's segment begin 3.5 minutes in) Live guides are key to bringing history to life!

Red carpet photos from last month’s GANYC Apple Awards ceremony! 📸 🍎 Congratulations again to all our winners and nominees, and thanks all who supported this event celebrating the best of New York.

Bridges in NYC tell stories. Jason Stein's FAM tour explored a few such bridges on the Harlem River: the Third Avenue Bridge, Madison Avenue Bridge, 145th Street Bridge, and Macombs Dam Bridge. The tour explored each bridge and its surrounding area.

Andrew Kirschner led members on a detailed FAM tour exploration of the historic Flatiron District. It discussed the stories behind iconic landmarks and pivotal moments in American history and explored the area’s remarkable architecture, influential figures, and dramatic events.

Dave Gardner brought fellow members near Chelsea Piers along the Hudson for a new FAM tour: "Piers and Ships of the West Side-- Before and After the Golden Age of the Steamship". The tour explored the shifting waterfront, the rise-and-fall of ocean-liners for transatlantic travel, and the Titanic.

On the 115th anniversary of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire earlier this week, members Eileen Rourke and Debra Wells led GANYC’s annual memorial tour. The tour discussed the conditions that led to this horrific workplace disaster, which led to the deaths of 146 immigrant garment workers.

GANYC held a new member orientation session yesterday evening, at Pier 57. We do these sessions once or twice a year to better meet our newer members, and help introduce them to how GANYC works. If you are a licensed NYC sightseeing guide, we encourage you to apply for GANYC membership! 🍎

GANYC VP Rosemary Shmavonian led fellow members around the Upper East Side last week, exploring connections to Andy Warhol and Truman Capote. The tour covered the stories of how they moved from young men to successful artists and how they interacted with the monied classes to make that happen.

Laurene Hamilton led an art-themed FAM this past week: "On Basquiat's steps throughout the East Village". The tour is designed to experience the New York underground that shaped one of the most iconic artists of the 20th century.
