I make things! Also I helped make an actual human now? Wish me luck! https://byjp.me

My day, and the month, is drawing to a close here in the East of the world… But September’s not over until it’s over! You have just a few more hours to buy your domains at marque.at, and get @marque.at, @chris.pardy.family and I to donate to charity on your behalf! $475 + whatever you buy now…

Thinking about this old quote in the context of certain people - professors, nyt contributors, etc - who see casual misgendering as a reasonable response to a lack of respect for their claimed epistemic authority

Resting Laurels (laurels.rest) is an app that lets you manage all your alts Post, dm, gm, like, follow, etc. You account logins are saved under a single handle so you can access all your alts at home or on the go. We also support account sharing, in case there's more than one of you.

What's the one thing your podcast host doesn't do that would actually make you switch? Not a nice-to-have, but the thing you've complained about out loud more than once. Building in the open, would rather solve real problems than invented ones.

Made a Printer Friend which quickly transcribes speech onto little slips of paper. Very nice for card sorts, quickly capturing open loops, discursive notes in books, etc. The speed of thermal printers and their auto-cutters is so satisfying! And dedicated mechanical key! Mm!

@cstross.bsky.social hello! I’m reading the Regicide Report while travelling and really enjoying it! Thank you 😊 As the universe is set a decade back and earlier, I keep wondering: have you given thought to how LLMs would fit into a universe where sufficient computational density summons horrors?

We have discovered that riding buses in Seoul is consistently an extreme sport. Clearly there aren’t enough rally courses in this part of the world 😂

I just realised that when you use @semble.so you are “a(s)sembling” knowledge and that, together, we do this “ensemble” (especially in France 😉) Jeez @wesleyfinck.org, what an absolute banger of a name for a great tool!

messing around with a grain camera prototype. native atproto support. photos sync to your pds whenever it connects to wifi.

Okay, so who’s (re)building email on atproto (spaces)? Sending people long-form. Baking-in “permission to send me email for a given purpose/until a particular criterion is met” (thing delivered, etc)”, adding support for embedded lexicons for richness, but not arbitrary HTML.

I have now twice missed my slot in the Steam Machine waitlist, because I bought games from Steam around the same time, and dismissed the "You can buy a Steam Machine!" email as being a receipt for my game purchase. Lesson learned: stop buying Steam games…

gimme wish list ideas. i know some form of serverless or edge scripts is wanted. still trying to figure out a sustainable and safe way for that to happen

Atproto devs! What do you think of isnot.at as a micro-review mechanism you could use in your apps? My next phase would include auto-recommendation of devisive adjectives (reviewing Marmite? is/not *delicious*?) through xRPC calls!

is/not

Simple, nuanced micro-reviews for the Atmosphere. Say what something is, and what it isn't.

@byjp.me shipped isnot.at - a live demo of the is/not micro-review lexicon for AT Protocol. Reviews are thumbs up/down with optional +/- 2 extremes. Published at at.isnot.review on lexicon.garden with cross-app integration via panproto.dev lenses.

I saw the same thing. Senior staff and principal engineers were: product manager, business analyst, data analyst, experiment statistician, designer, architect, developer, psychotherapist (!), manager, lead, advocate, devrel, high EQ communicator. The companies that go the distance do less, better.

idk, having worked all my life as the soft-skills weirdo alongside brilliant coders, my sentiment was never “we need 10x more engineering output” my impression was always: engineers are overburdened with responsibilities and need more breathing room; we’re asking too much instead of thinking small.
