OTD 2009: Club Atlético Independiente opened their Estadio Libertadores de América with a 3-2 win over Colón. Built on the same spot where La Doble Visera (opened in 1928) stood, the ground's financing was helped by Sergio Agüero's 2006 transfer to Atlético Madrid for US$23m.

🇦🇷🏆 Club Atlético River Plate won their first Copa Libertadores. A 2-1 win against América de Cali in Colombia was followed by a 1-0 win in the home leg at El Monumental on 29th October 1986. River Plate went on to beat Steaua București in the Intercontinental Cup in Tokyo.

🇦🇷🥚 Born on this day in 1991, Marcos 'El Huevo' /The Egg) Acuña. The World Cup winner began his career at Ferro Carril Oeste before moving to Racing Club. Seven years in Europe followed (Sporting and Sevilla) before returning to Buenos Aires with River Plate in 2024.

OTD 1957: Argentina 🇦🇷 4-0 🇧🇴 Bolivia La albiceleste qualified for the 1958 World Cup in Sweden fielding nine River Plate players in their home win against Bolivia. Ironically the game was not played at River's El Monumental but rather at Independiente's ground.
