Dolly was not neutral. She was apolitical in that she didn’t talk about politics. But when it came to poverty, literacy, LGBTQ+ rights, etc. she was outspoken. She was only apolitical because she didn’t consider those things political issues - she considered them human issues.

"At a time when no American celebrity seems immune from the country’s many divisions, Dolly Parton was a crossover icon who stayed neutral in the culture wars while still speaking her mind," writes Zachary B. Wolf. | Analysis

I appreciate that Dolly Parton refused to participate in "dress respectability" and, by her own account, modeled her aesthetic after a town "tramp," who she thought was beautiful. She separated aesthetics from character and understood "classiness" to be about how you treat people, not how you dress.

Dolly Parton's passing is effortlessly proving that if you spend your life being nice and kind and generous instead of mean and cruel and selfish, then apologists for mean cruel selfish bullies won't have to go around scolding people for cheering when you die, because there will be no cheering.

BBC gets gnarled moldy hate troll JK Rowling to eulogize beloved feminist icon and queer ally Dolly Parton. I guess Harvey Weinstein and Louis CK were unavailable or whatever.

And they ran the numbers and the little blue lives wizard books did nothing to affect child reading rates. That belief was just marketing/propaganda put out by Scholastic and was based on "Well my child's reading them so obviously every child is reading them now" vibes.

“by a celebrity 💅” fuck her god she’s SO MAD someone else besides her is being lauded as the patron saint of child literacy. you had your chance and blew it, lady! that’s not who you are anymore! gotta force HBO to reboot your movies just to feel something smh

there are so many more people dolly parton should have outlived. she did so much good for the world. she's all the proof you need that the predominant rich people of our tine are just plain choosing to be evil, anyone could use their wealth to make the world better at any time

my wife has a friend who sent Dolly Parton a painting she made & a letter explaining how much Dolly's music meant to her while she was transitioning. Dolly responded to it personally & paid for her top surgery. Sounds like an urban legend but it's real. I think we're going to more stories like this.

The word saint is thrown around a lot. None more deserving of that moniker than Dolly Parton. Everyone should aspire to be like she always was. A true beacon of hope, love and compassion for all A pure soul that will be remembered for many generations The world truly lost an angel today

It's so weird that Dolly Parton used her money to help ordinary people in a thousand different meaningful ways *and* lived an incredibly happy fulfilled life, almost like there's some sort of connection between the two. Anyway, let me read about another AI CEO poisoning a town for shits and giggles

Rest in Peace. The more you learn about what Dolly did, and stood for, her vocal LGBTQIA+ allyship, her philanthropy, the more you can't help but admire her. She's one of the examples of what you can do if you're influential and wealthy. And shames those who have far more than she did and don't.

telling that periodically someone would go "man dolly parton can't really be all that" and then they'd go look into it and come back with "actually she's even better than we thought"

The pedophile billionaires currently burning the earth to cinder, can look at Dolly Parton and they literally would not understand why she did what she did, why people are mourning her. Like dogs observing a funeral.

Dolly Parton did what literally no techbro billionaire would even think of doing: filling her life with good deeds that make people mourn her when she dies. Not one of these assholes would even think of this, they are all right now completely and honestly baffled by the outpouring of love for her.

it’s hard to remember sometimes, looking at the world, but it is actually possible to be a really good person all you have to do is try

I love her but I wish people wouldn't say there will never be another like her. She put in the work to enable hope, charity, and success in others every day & would want us to believe that a future of generosity & kindness is still deserved & possible even if she's gone now. We can all enable it.

What Dolly taught us is that it is in fact possible to be wealthy beyond your wildest dreams of avarice but still be a fundamentally good person with a strong moral compass, and the only reason more rich people aren't like that is because they don't want to be.
