“Death is inevitable but pain and distress need not be." Yesterday, the Commission launched its report in Parliament. Sir Mike Richards, Chair of the Commission on Palliative and End-of-Life Care, emphasised how joined-up palliative care can profoundly benefit patients, the NHS, and acute hospitals.

Meet the Commissioners - Martin is the Chief Executive of Care England. Additionally, in 2012, in his role as Department of Health and Social Care Independent Sector Dementia Champion, he led the development of the Dementia Care and Support Compact for The Prime Minister’s Challenge on Dementia.

Rachael Maskell, MP for York Central and one of our Commissioners, recently spoke in the House of Commons about funding for hospices. In his response, the Minister of State at the Department of Health and Social Care welcomed the work of the Commission.

Yesterday, the commission met for its eighth oral evidence session, discussing “Children’s services.” The commissioners heard from paediatric palliative care experts and parents of children experiencing palliative care. Thank you to everyone who provided written and oral evidence on this topic.

Meet the commissioners - Baroness Fraser of Craigmaddie is Chief Executive of Cerebral Palsy Scotland. She is Chair of the Scottish Government’s National Advisory Committee for Neurological Conditions and was a Trustee of the Neurological Alliance of Scotland for over 10 years.

Rachael Maskell MP, one of our commissioners, expressed her support for the appeal of the end-of-life charity Marie Curie. The charity works to ensure that everyone at the end of life receives the care and support they need. Marie Curie is one of the supporters of the commission.
