What I get from AI-pushers as they discuss this new machine "intelligence", they are going to make sure their robot servants have rights before they allow women and black people to have rights. It comes across so clearly I worry that is part of the point of drowning everyone in AI.

New Mothbox PCBs came in, with lots of tweaks from the past half-year of on-the-ground workshops! My fav lil feature: I used a part of the PCB that normally gets cut away to help make a tiny integrated tool that some folks asked for to help with flipping some of the tiny settings switches:

It takes you 20 paragraphs to get to the part of the article where they admit that Mamdani isn't paying the influencers and the reason they are posting videos of the stuff Mamdani is doing is because people are interested in watching it.

The mayor’s office says that it does not pay the influencers. Still, their proximity and access to a figure as popular as Mr. Mamdani can help increase their own social media following and, by extension, potentially put them in a position to attract paid content sponsorships from commercial brands. Some influencers said that when they feature Mr. Mamdani, the videos get more likes and viewers watch longer.

"Mr. Mamdani is a master of new media... But as mayor, he has also been able to use taxpayer funds to create a sprawling network of hundreds of friendly influencers to boost his priorities, provide positive depictions of his administration and enhance his popularity."

New Mothbox Box! Been cranking away on more design tweaks from our last half year of travel and use and workshop feedback. Today I just about finished up the latest concept! It is still mostly compatible with previous designs, but a couple key new features that I am excited for!

I do think “every rich person went insane during covid because it was the first time they’ve been inconvenienced in decades” felt a little reductive at first but damn if isn’t more and more compelling as the years drag on

I just don't think anybody should be making over a million dollars a year working for a nonprofit/university/museum. I don't think there is any justification for it. This is even more true when those making 2.5mil a YEAR say they don't have enough money to continue public services.

There are endless studies showing this and also the financial and societal benefits of universal basic income and or housing-first policies but the U.S. never goes for any of it because it would require allowing the poor to receive benefits that the rich consider “undeserved”

“A single-payer universal health care system could cover every American, save more than 100,000 lives a year, and still cost $1 trillion less than the system it would replace, according to a new preprint study led by researchers at the Yale School of Public Health.” ysph.yale.edu/news-article...
