My (still unfunded) 1st percentile score and I definitely feel this…
NEW: They Got the Best NIH Scores of Their Careers. A Year Later, They Still Don’t Have Funding. As the NIH bankrolls new research at a significantly slower-than-usual pace, I talked to scientists left in the lurch about the toll on their research and careers: www.chronicle.com/article/they...

New post! Are you following @sketchplanations.bsky.social ? He is great at explaining complex ideas via text and images, and some of those complex ideas are statistical.
I'm looking for a good resource on the implications on psychometric properties and response patterns when using Strongly Disagree to Strongly Agree vs Never/Rarely/Sometimes/Often/Always Likert scales on surveys. Anyone have anything I should read?

Happy to teach an intro stats or intro research methods class on survey design.
Finally, a note to the many professors in my networks: One other specific, small thing you can do from outside of Minneapolis is reach out to colleagues who are heavily affected (because of their own or their family's risk, or because they're very busy protecting neighbors) and offer a guest lecture
Someone made an actually-organized version of this!!

why did they call it "therapy" and not "deep issue massage"
Do I have any Canadian contacts working in the Queer data space that are interested in submitting a grant with me? Must be at a Canadian university. Topic would be gender affirming care in trans individuals. I have a proposal idea.
Feeling especially sad and frustrated with the state of scientific funding in the US right now. It’s devastating that good grants with scientific merit are unfundable because their topics disagree with the politics of administration I know this isnt new but it’s hitting me hard and personally today
This is a cool call for papers. Anyone want to work on something with me to submit to this. I only have a few vague ideas so I’d be happy to collaborate with someone who has a more structured idea.
Excited to share a new call for papers for a special issue in Psychometrika focused on Data Intensive Methods in Psychometrics that I'll be guest editing with @kyliegorney.bsky.social, @jmbh.bsky.social, @leonievogelsmeier.bsky.social, and Ben Domingue: www.psychometricsociety.org/post/call-sp...
It always brightens my day when my students papers get accepted. Love to see the talent of the next generation of statisticians!
As we head into the new year, let's all be gentle with ourselves and our bodies. You are the one who determines your own goals. You are the one who knows what food makes you feel good and nourished. You are the one who gets decide what you eat. Trust yourself.
This is your annual reminder that your body is not a “before picture”. Despite getting bombarded over the next few weeks with advertisements for intentional weight loss, remember that it’s okay, encouraged even, to love yourself no matter how you are and to nourish your body with what it needs.
Time to replace the document called Fall To Do with Spring To Do. Contents? The same
Looking forward to this talk! Come join me for a discussion on queer data!
