It's Trans Day of Visibility, but a shout out to the invisible trans people - the ones who haven't realised, the ones who haven't shared it, and, sadly, the ones for whom it's just too dangerous to be yourself in public. I might not see you, but I know you're out there.

This drawing, by my cousin, won the primary school competition to celebrate the new ferry in 1998. With funding for a replacement #JuraFerry announced today, I would like to point out that Chris now designs boats for a living and I would be totally up for his tank / hovercraft hybrid. #Ferry #Jura

I have many things to do. So I procrastinated by making a table for my local newsletter showing the savings brought about by the £2 bus fair cap, and assessing whether it is worth getting 2 singles or a return for various routes . It's a work in progress. Peer review encouraged. #BusFare #FareCap

How can thinking about capacity and reliance help us better understand island (and other rural) places? My new paper explores how exploring these concepts can reveal the diversity of non-urban spaces for better research & policymaking. www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti... #RuralPolicy #Islands

A new conceptual framework to classify sub-national islands: Gow's Typology

I'm sad that the word 'outdoorsy' has become associated with physical exertion. I am outdoorsy in that I like to be outside, to potter & meander in nature. @susiedentwords.bsky.social is there a word for this? Or should those of us who enjoy the gentler side of the outdoors try to reclaim outdoorsy?

I gave the first of my informal research presentations tonight to an audience of 10 (about 4% of the population) in my island. I am so grateful for their interest and support, and for their questions and comments on my research. Looking forward to the online session on 5th!

I am going to be giving an informal talk about my research into island connections & return migration in early March, discussing the idea of the diaspora as extended community and the realities of return. All welcome. #ReturnMigration #Diaspora #IslandStudies www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/lost-poten...

Considering a move to an island? Forget worrying about how you will handle everyone knowing your business. The real question is how will you handle everyone having a vocal opinion on your business... #IslandLife

That's the PhD thesIs submitted. It was hard work and only possible with the support of many, many people. Not least of all my participants & the wider Scottish island community. You're the reason I do this research, and I am so grateful for the support you have shown me these last 4 yrs. Thank you.
