Friends of the River Wye

A grassroots community group and registered charity devoted to protecting the River Wye. We run a citizen science project and organise outreach events across the catchment. More info on our website: https://friendsoftheriverwye.org.uk/

The Rivers Wye & Usk once bloomed with water crowfoot (ranunculus). Today, much of it has gone. We're delighted to be working with Save the River Usk on a new Nature Networks Fund project to investigate its decline, understand what's been lost, and help this vital river habitat recover.

Where do citizen scientists come from? Not from under rocks or the roots of river grasses. They’re trained. Here’s an image from the Dulas Brook this morning. Friends of the River Wye are delighted to be extending our volunteer-led data collection into freshwater biological monitoring.

Absolutely delighted to have received a copy of The Riverside Code, a beautiful booklet created by Friends of the River Wye to help local residents turn love for the River Wye into action to restore it to health!

Glad to see the EA declaring this sewage pollution of the Pinsley Brook from Welsh Water illegal. Thanks to the woman who spotted and first reported this constant discharge and to Hereford Times for first reporting on it. We attended and confirmed grim state. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

There is huge local effort in North Herefordshire to tackle agricultural pollution in the Wye & Lugg - but we need proper government support for the solutions local people want: farmer-led landscape recovery projects; more funding and teeth for the EA, and a WPZ for the Wye.

EA has unveiled long-awaited Diffuse Water Pollution Plan for River Wye SAC - this will fail to rescue the river. Louise Bodnar, Voice of the River Wye, “This is a Death Warrant for the Wye, it’s sickening that those with power to help the river choose not to.” www.herefordtimes.com/news/2570358...
