I have mixed feelings (panic, but also morbid curiosity and fascination) for people like Stephani or Rafinesque. Tropicos cites over 7,400 names with his authority. What a nightmare!

Excerpt from Schuster's liverwort flora vol 1. (...) Systematic work in hepaticology received a lasting shock, in consequence of the publication by Stephani of his six-volume Species Hepaticarum (1898-1924). Although originally a conscientious, if not critical, hepaticologist, Stephani was eventually overwhelmed by the endless stream of exotic material sent to him for study. As a result, the last volumes of his work exhibit so much irresponsibility that a tremendous burden is now thrown on the shoulders of other workers, present and future.

Vincent Hugonnot and Jeannette Chavoutier have just announced that the second volume of "Les Bryophytes de France" (Pleurocarps and Sphagnum) is out. The first volume (liverworts and hornworts) received the Hattori Prize by the International Association of Bryologists. This is a top quality flora

(1/2) En mi TFM descubrimos que Hypopterygium tamarisci es un taxón mucho más joven de lo que se pensaba (~90 Ma), y que este, posiblemente se encuentre en diversificación y expansión 🌱☄️ #PlantScience #Botany #Bryophytes
