met someone at an event last night. i tell her i just moved to nyc. she goes “want a recommendation? tell me about yourself.” i say i’m an artist. she pauses and asks “is your art more like a dead tree or a map to a place that doesn’t exist?” before recommending the brooklyn museum

kind of awesome how i moved to nyc and immediately began walking 2+ miles every single day. like chicago is definitely walkable but nyc makes walking everywhere soooo much easier than anywhere else i’ve been and i think that’s beautiful

coolest part of moving to nyc so far has been learning i have 5 friends & mutuals who live within ~500 feet of my apartment so now i can live that sitcom lifestyle where i’m just constantly having people over every day

oftentimes i am very happy with and proud of myself, but sometimes i wish to be a completely neutral being of pure energy and not this collection of immutable identities so nobody would have a reason to dislike me for what i am. i don’t really know what to do about that

to everyone who came over and sat in the chairs under my bed with me to listen to music, play games, watch movies, or just yap for hours: thank you so much from the bottom of my heart. the memories i made here mean the world to me. i’m going to miss this city so much

this afternoon i’m finishing up moving all my things out of the apartment i spent the last 3.5 years in. might be cheesy but i’m getting pretty emotional seeing the space i spent years making my own disappear before my eyes. i’ll really miss this place. best room i ever had

the space underneath my loft bed before move-out, decorated with lots of lights and chairs and shelves full of plants and books and records

i really do hope i made a positive impact on the chicago trans community, even a small one. i was mostly on the periphery but it was still life-changing for me and it’s been difficult to say goodbye to so many people who’ve been near and dear to my heart for years. i love you all
