While #Australia is facing both #gas shortages and increasing industrial closures due to skyrocketing gas prices, Japanese companies are onselling vast amounts of our gas for a profit. It is time for government to seriously look at diverting some of our #LNG exports towards the domestic market.

Western Australia’s #gas consumption – already the highest in #Australia – is forecast to continue growing over the next decade. However, it could be reined in through a few targeted interventions. See new report here: ieefa.org/resources/re... #WA #energytransition #energy

What #gas shortage? #Australia has more than enough gas to cover its needs. #LNG producers sell enormous amounts of gas in discretionary 'spot sales' - beyond their contracts - which could be diverted to the domestic market with the right policy. ieefa.org/resources/au... #energy

#Australia has already approved way more #coal mines than it needs to meet expected demand, so why approve more? The capacity of approved coal mines already exceeded production by about 70% in 2023 and would be about 2.5x higher than IEA forecast levels under their 1.7C scenario #energy #climate
