Cuts to Inheritance Tax would cost the country billions & largely benefit the wealthiest. But let's deal with the real elephant in the room: the very richest using trusts & loopholes to avoid paying at all. We should fix that before we even start debating rates & thresholds.

A better tax system that benefits everyone in the UK. Sister organisation of @taxjusticenet.bsky.social https://taxjustice.uk/
We've been sharing stories from our supporters about why well-funded public services matter. Some were only a sentence or two long, but too good not to share, so here's a snapshot. Thanks to everyone who sent one in. 🎉
We teamed up with @adambrichto.bsky.social and partners at @38degrees.bsky.social and @oxfamgb.bsky.social to ask people in Reading about wealth taxes. All across the country, people support making the super-rich pay their fair share. taxjustice.uk/sign-up-to-o...
Capital Gains Tax reform is pro-growth. Equalise rates with income tax and introduce an investor's allowance. The result? More incentives to invest in businesses, innovation and jobs & fewer incentives for passive wealth-hoarding. Rachael Henry from IPPR explains on GB News.
Again for those at the back, Sharon! 📢 You work hard. You pay tax on every payslip. But some of the wealthiest people in the UK, those that make their money from having money, pay lower tax rates than the rest of us. That's not fair. It's time for them to pay their share.✊
71% think Burnham's govt is looking out for mega-corps. 67% say it prioritises the mega-rich. Just 43% think its got the backs of workers & small businesses. This Budget, we hope Burnham proves us wrong & gives public services the boost they need, by taxing extreme wealth.
Tax doesn't just fund things, it makes good lives possible. It feels like there's a constant barrage of tax scare stories in the press as we approach the Budget, so we wanted to balance it with real stories on the impacts tax makes. Thanks to Francesca for sharing her story! 👏
Without taxes, we'd all be poorer, sicker, and less secure. Schools, hospitals, roads, parks, public services, the things we rely on every day don't appear by magic. Our very own Faiza Shaheen was saying it exactly as it is on the Iain Dale Show. 👏 #TaxWorks
WITHOUT a Wealth Tax someone with £11M could buy a decent family hatchback... But they probably already have a Ferrari (or 2). WITH a Wealth Tax, we could have free childcare for all AND build 90K new social homes. Oh, & someone with £10,980,000 could STILL buy a new hatchback.
When we talk about taxing the super-rich this is what we mean... Only 0.03% of the UK population has wealth of more than £10 million. & someone with £11,000,000 would pay just £20,000 with our Wealth Tax proposal.
When people hear "tax the rich more", they often think we mean doctors, lawyers or directors on six-figure salaries, paying 40%+. But we don't. We're talking about billionaires & multi millionaires, paying lower rates than nurses. Our own Faiza Shaheen sets it straight on LBC.
Gary is just 1 of the 120 @PatrioticMillionairesuk that signed an demanding Burnham tax them more. And, despite what you might see in the press, Gary is part of the majority. 80% of UK millionaires support a 2% tax on wealth over £10million. patrioticmillionaires.uk/latest-news/...
Tax is one of the clearest ways our society lives its values. With so much negativity in the press, we wanted to balance the books by sharing stories from our supporters about what tax makes possible. Thanks to Gillian for sharing hers. 💛 What has tax made possible for you?
No, the UK isn't a poor country (its the 19th richest). No, we're not suggesting we "frisk" people at airports. No, the rich aren't scared of a tax they can easily afford. & No, we shouldn't base policy on fabricated data.
Turns out "this summer" was actually ten years ago... 👀 Funny how basic fact-checking goes out the window when billionaire-owned newspapers see a chance to scare us away from taxing billionaires. 👉 Full story: www.taxwatchuk.org/how-many-tim...
We can’t even count the number of headlines we’ve seen recently talking about "Tax raids”. A raid is what Viking pillagers did to coastal villages, and robbers do to homes. It's a very strange way to describe the process through which a democratic society ensures decent lives for its communities.
Britain can’t rebuild on vibes. It needs investment. That means getting serious about the Tax gap. Because right now £59Billion— enough to pay for free school meals AND affordable childcare AND build 1.45M social homes— is being lost to non-payment. 👉 bit.ly/4z9JQrK
Tax gap 2026 - Tax Justice UK
Britain's tax gap is growing which will provide a headache for the Prime Minister in-waiting, Andy Burnham, and his plans for devolution.

Thank you @jemmaforte for saying it like it is. 👏 Extreme inequality is a doom-loop, if we don't tackle it soon it will continue to drive our economy to stagnation & make a mockery of our democracy.
If it feels like ordinary people can’t win in the UK, it’s because mega‑corps, & the mega‑rich have stitched us up. How? They lobby Westminster every day for loopholes, opt‑outs & giveaways. We need a People’s Lobby to take them on. Be a part of it. bit.ly/4hZ0THh

It's been 2 weeks since we delivered a message in a bottle from ̶1̶5̶0̶,̶0̶0̶0̶ ̶ 180,000 of you to No 10 North... now just 3 weeks left to see if he listened. 💰Hoarded wealth is holding us all back.
The UK has been milked for profit & left to rot by decades of underinvestment. If Burnham really wants to rebuild, he'll need a good Budget not just good vibes. That means a budget that reinvests by taxing the super‑rich. 📺 Our very own Faiza Shaheen on GMB back in August.
WE SAY NO TO PALANTIR 🙅♂️ We and 120+ organisations and unions across Europe are calling on our governments and the European Commission to scrap all existing public sector contracts with Palantir. Read the open letter here: www.globaljustice.org.uk/wp-content/u...
Andy Burnham's speech yesterday felt like a genuine shift from vibes to vision & to unity from division. There was a lot to welcome: serious commitments on social care, green energy, housing, devolution, electoral reform & greater public control of essential services... 🧵1/5
The UK is one of the richest countries in the world. So, why are so many people struggling? Simple: too much wealth is concentrated at the top. Here's how modest taxes, on those who can most afford it, could transform lives across the country. What would you spend it on?
We all know tax goes up the more you earn... right? 🤔 Not quite. For most people, yes. But at the very top, something strange happens.. Average tax rates paid: 💷 Top 10% → 39% 💷 Top 1% → 37% 💷 Top 0.1% → 34% 💷 Top 0.01% → 30% And 1 in 4 of the ultra-rich pay 20% or less.
Trump and big tech CEOs want the UK to scrap our digital services tax. Last week we sent a letter to Andy Burnham urging him to stand strong in the face of lobbying from the USA, to strengthen the DST, and apply it to AI companies. Read more - taxjustice.uk/blog/digital...
We’re at Labour Party Conference with @patmillsuk.bsky.social for our panel “The Wealth Tax Conversation”. Thanks to Anneliese Dodds MP for chairing and @georgebangham.bsky.social of @neweconomics.bsky.social, Stephen Kinsella and @arunadvani.bsky.social of @centaxuk.bsky.social for joining.
🍾 Every Billionaire with a UK tax footprint now has a personal HMRC tax compliance manager! That's great news. Since scrapping it's High Net Worth team about a decade ago, HMRC's grasp on the tax affairs of the Super-Rich has been inexcusably poor... 1/3 news.bloombergtax.com/daily-tax-re...
HMRC Assigns Tax Compliance Manager to Every UK Billionaire
The UK tax authority has assigned a personal compliance manager to every billionaire within its reach as it seeks to get a better grip on the super-rich’s tax liabilities.

🤦 The fact inheritance tax is front-page news, again, tells you more about the priorities of the super-rich than the priorities of the country. Inheritance tax isn't behind high bills, low wages, crumbling public services, or any of the other issues dragging the UK down. Wealth inequality is.
It's great to hear the govt is considering equalising Capital Gains Tax (the tax paid on income from wealth) with Income Tax (the tax paid on wages). If done right it could raise £11 billion+/year for our public services, whilst making the country fairer & boosting growth.
