I think part of it also was that cutting live scouts for video was presented as part of the Jeff Luhnow Package, including cutting minor league affiliates so I think a lot of people assumed it was just being cheap / sinister rather than effective

Another secret in this discussion is that the vast majority of 2016’s best live evaluators adapted and got better with more information streams. The ones you hear complaining on social media are the small minority who didn’t or couldn’t

I think people are dramatically underestimating the value of getting close but not making the playoffs. a run that got them to .500 would be exciting, it would let fans dream until late Sept, and it would almost certainly greatly increase ticket sales next year. All good things for their future.

I feel like I’m losing my mind seeing all these Met playoff takes that involve them going on a miracle run to land at 83-84 wins. Over here in Earth-1, the modal number to get in from the NL is currently around 87 and NYM playoff odds have gone down daily as many teams in front of them also win

Again this is always a very tough question for me and Jeffrey bc if there was anything either of us felt strongly enough about it would be reflected. I did the bulk of the work on the STL list after the 101 and would’ve pushed harder for Joshua Baez higher if that had been reversed.
