I believe he has mostly not had it in recent years
Is that he has a really nice mustache. Cesar Romero-esque.
hey there we go we can say he was laterally responsible for the building of the third nicest golf course in New Jersey
paid mike trout a lot of money
he sure did give Anthony Rendon's great-great grandchildren generational wealth
He gave a lot of money to players for a while!
Arte Moreno is one of the worst owners in modern baseball history and was so bad at the business of baseball that he declined to participate in the endgame of the Ohtani free agency, but one good thing you can say about him is, uh, well,
Orioles make a lot of sense for a Robert claim: multiple starting outfielders actually worse than him (somehow) and in a super leveraged playoff odds environment where every fraction of a win is worth even more
If I had a nickel for every show I’ve watched that came up with “the dating plan” I’d have 10 cents which isn’t much but it’s weird that the dumbest plot in dramedy has happened twice
He may get claimed by someone who sees him as a starting CF or sees value in the team option, but at face value Luis Robert is functionally on a prorated 1/30ish contract right now and teams do not acquire guys making that much as platoon corner or bench guys
I had some thoughts on the Marlins pro scouting changes, the bizarre discourse surrounding it, and try to nail down what pro scouting even is in 2026 www.baseballprospectus.com/prospects/ar... @baseballprospectus.com

The Marlins recent decision has ruffled feathers, even as it remains on trend for the industry.

"What Is A Pro Scout" - the greatest thread in the history of forums, locked by a moderator after 12,239 pages of heated debate,
is anyone actually making an affirmative case for Eye Scouting as an important art form or is this all just weird discourse from people adding up media guide terms without understanding what they mean
as a human being, I simply have to reject the premise that there are *any* valid causes by which you should hate *any* group of people simply for who they are
yeah I mean look I was oppositionally defiant to this for years too. And then because I’m an adult I realized I was falling behind as an evaluator and writer because of that oppositional defiance and grew up
I think part of it also was that cutting live scouts for video was presented as part of the Jeff Luhnow Package, including cutting minor league affiliates so I think a lot of people assumed it was just being cheap / sinister rather than effective
Another secret in this discussion is that the vast majority of 2016’s best live evaluators adapted and got better with more information streams. The ones you hear complaining on social media are the small minority who didn’t or couldn’t
Cheap video and fast data transfer were very bad for the live scouting industry
Jeffrey made a point more elegantly that I have been trying to make for some time: the people who are telling you live pro scouting is still important are doing so because it’s valuable to *their* process. It’s not to mine. Or almost every team.
We rarely hear from the guys that are comfortable working with live looks, video, and data because they are all still employed by teams and not complaining to equally curmudgeonly baseball media. It’s just another culture war that’s long over.
Pogi sprinting against Mads for bonis in a race he’s going to win by 12 minutes is some absolute sicko shit
Heard about Rovert's passing a few hours ago, have been genuinely stunned since. Have been in the same internet spaces as Trevor for, I don't know, probably 20+ years. A true one of a kind poster and fascinating guy; there will never be another like him. May his memory be a blessing to all.
the casual nature by which you all will grossly insinuate to outright defame baseball media as being bought off by the rotating villain of the week is really astounding
Julian Alaphilippe’s 2019 Tour was the definition of aura

ah yes the platonic ideal of Wilponism, “meaningful games in September” This sort of valiant but doomed is something that matters a *lot* to highly engaged fans you see on your screens and matters little to anyone else. The median Mets fans tuned out on the season months ago and isn’t coming back
I think people are dramatically underestimating the value of getting close but not making the playoffs. a run that got them to .500 would be exciting, it would let fans dream until late Sept, and it would almost certainly greatly increase ticket sales next year. All good things for their future.
I feel like I’m losing my mind seeing all these Met playoff takes that involve them going on a miracle run to land at 83-84 wins. Over here in Earth-1, the modal number to get in from the NL is currently around 87 and NYM playoff odds have gone down daily as many teams in front of them also win
college junior wearing his varsity jacket to the high school party and thinking he’s still the shit vibes rn
If we’re into a full “Kyle Tucker hates Los Angeles” arc, he becomes one of the more obvious Mets bad contract swap targets imo
I literally wrote about this player *yesterday* like good lord not every cheeky post about my past evaluation of a player I have been much higher on than the crowd for over a year now needs a hall monitor response www.baseballprospectus.com/news/article...
