Mochihira Edakumi

Warrior of Light, Former Maelstrom Officer, Sentinel of the Antecedent. CURRENT MSQ COMPLETION - 6.55 - ENTERING DAWNTRAIL!! (FFXIV 'In-Character' Account of @84fstudios.bsky.social - Banner and PFP by myself)

The memory of Minfilia. No joke. In their last interaction - in the aetherial sea following a tremendous crystal explosion in a Garlean Castrum (I swear it makes sense in context!!) - Minfilia pleaded that Mochi learn to ‘live for his cause, not die for it’. He keeps that plea as a solemn oath…

#wolqotd / #wolquestion What motivates your wol / oc to keep doing what they’re doing?

More often than not, Mochi's always on time - and on occasion, when it seems like he's finally going to be late, it turns out he's been in a corner unseen, having been the first person to arrive the whole time! How he achieves it as an Au Ra his size is anyone's guess...!

#wolqotd / #wolquestion Is your wol / oc punctual to events or more so late / never on time? Does it depend on the event?

Mochi's only real 'studies' have involved weaponry - blacksmithing, artificer weaponry, learning about firearms when he became a machinist... Nothing specifically 'scholarly', however. Now he's set up the Sentinels, however, he is starting to pick up a book or two on certain topics...

#wolqotd / #wolquestion What have your wol/oc studied in? Are they scholar? Have they graduated? ARE THEY ARCHON? On my part, Saphir went from ninth to Sharlayan and managed to speedrun a thesis on Electrope to make it known to everyone. And she got her Archon of Electrope tattoo ! She's the goat

Post-EW, Mochi is the leader of 'The Sentinels Pursuant of the Antecedent’s Vision Most Noble', basically a collective of 'Agents of Inquiry'. His encounters with Hildibrand rubbed off on him, and now he is no longer a soldier, he's finally able to pursue the path of an adventurer (sorta!) 1/5

#wolqotd / #wolquestion What occupation(s) does your wol / oc have if any?

Mochi adores heights. It's an appreciation he's had since he was a boy climbing heights in Doma, and one that's only gotten better when he became a Dragoon - and still sticks with him even now! I don't *hate* heights, but I have recently discovered that Go Ape is my new final boss...!

#wolqotd because why not - Is there anything that your WoL/OC adores that you yourself do not? In my case - Jherr and Phina ABSOLUTELY ADORE roller coasters - the faster and wilder and loopier, the better! I can’t ride even a tiny coaster, lest the vertigo kick my ass XD

SPECIFICALLY. SPECIFICALLY THE "I THOUGHT YOU'D BE TALLER" LINES IN THE IVALICE QUESTLINE. FROM BOTH MIKOTO AND LADY FRAN. WHEN MOCHI TOWERS OVER BOTH OF THEM. He's just baffled by the insinuation that he was expected to be taller than he already is. Even more so from Lady Fran's accusation..!

SmallCat@sizeablecat.bsky.social · last mo.

#wolqotd How does your WoL/OC take the "I thought you'd be taller" or "You don't look so tough" lines from people expecting a hero out of legend but getting an adventurer instead? Does it hurt their feelings? Maybe provoke them to show off more? Unfazed?

Bozja is ONE HUNDRED PERCENT canon to Mochi - though primarily for story and GC related reasons. @vivianashtonwol.bsky.social knows the full details ofc, but basically - imagine the Save the Queen questline is a season of ITV'S Sharpe, but Mochi and the 84th Machinists are Sharpe and his Rifles.

Firoza Istus on Main@jackabee.bsky.social · last mo.

#wolqotd Do you consider any/all of the relic weapon quests to be canon for your WoL/OC? Are they hype to do the grind for every single new weapon? Can they not be arsed to even do one? Have they only done any attached story (Eureka, Bozja, OC?)

Mochi's early reaction to praise is often overly-humble declination of said praise (from ARR right up until end of SB). Slowly, he gets better, but doesn't really start 'accepting' that praise until his return from the First in post-SHB. For so long, he just thinks he's undeserving of it...!

#wolqotd / #wolquestion How does your wol / oc handle praise? Is it something they enjoy, do they feel suffocated, something else?

Something me and my friendgroup like to do, is try to divvy up the job quests into each characters' personal stories. Because of this, the quest NPCs are by extension, claimed by the appropriate WoL. E.g. Mochi's DRG quests lead him to Ywain and Alberic, MCH to Stephanivien, GNB Radovan, etc.

#wolqotd Does your WoL/OC train their job under the wing of ingame teachers or under someone else? Rava gets her RDM skills from Au Ra teacher who opened a red mage fencing school nearby Wine Port with local doman refugees that are also most of his students.

Mochi's a very good swimmer, even in armour. His life in Doma, and his proximity to the One River, meant that he has strong memories of swimming with his sister, when they were kids. Bonus: The Ruby Sea felt like a Total Wipeout course for him, like the One River had simply trained him for this.

🍓@unmovingtroika.bsky.social · last mo.

#wolqotd ignore for a moment that the wol can swim perfectly fine due to ffxiv being a video game: can your wol actually swim? or do they require assistance / a boat / or something else? or can they swim but have poor cardio? bonus question: how did traversing the ruby sea go for your wol?

Mochihira's first real 'defeat' was when the Garlean Empire started to trample all over his people in Doma. Once, he tried to stand up for what was right, only to be kicked away by a soldier. "Come back and fight me when you're stronger, whelp!" He took that to heart. And come back he did...

#wolqotd / #wolquestion When your wol / oc was defeated for the first time (if applicable) how did they feel? Did the defeat motivate them, kill their morale, or something else?

Right! DRG Thread time!! 🧵 This will be a brief overview. Mochi began his 'adventure' under the tutelage of Ywain in Gridania, with little more than a staff to his name. However, he learned fast and improved greatly over time - even if his early days were spoiled by the presence of Foulques... 1/9

@mochiedakumiwol.bsky.social is our AU’s resident (former) dragoon so I aim this question at him!

Mochi BELIEVES his biggest flaw is his past mistakes - he's been a soldier for so long that he's only now coming to terms with the pain of 'being the one who survives'. His ACTUAL flaw is his anger - as stated before, 'Know No Fear' Guilliman style rage, which his friends know all too well...

Darius@dariusult.bsky.social · 2mo ago

#wolqotd / #wolquestion What does your WoL/OC consider to be their biggest flaw? Is it an accurate assessment of themselves? If it isn't, what is their *actual* biggest flaw?

Mochi isn't a caster, but he is of the belief that 'magic is a calling' - you're either called to it, or you aren't. Mochihira never has been called of course, as his path has always taken him down the path of the bladesman (and for a time, the machinist...!)

I R A@roira.bsky.social · 2mo ago

Inspired by Nint's question, I have a #wolqotd for anyone with spellcasting OCs, or OCs with ties to casting or casters. Magic: "Is a calling." "Is a gift." "Is a curse." "Is a science." "Is a tool." They get to pick one. Which one is it, and why?

For the longest time, Mochi refused to accept the title of 'Warrior of Light' - Vivian (@vivianashtonwol.bsky.social) was the WoL as far as he was concerned, and he was merely a soldier in the ever continuing war against the darkness. By the end of EW, he's slowly managing to accept the title...

Ikumi Yamoshi 📚WOLQOTD Enthusiast📚@moon-petals.bsky.social · 2mo ago

#wolqotd / #wolquestion How does your wol / oc feel about their title as the warrior of light? If they aren’t a wol, how do they feel about the wol?

Mochi's temperament from ARR to HW was often short tempered, but well mannered. From DS to SB that temper was calmed somewhat, but he was still prone to anger. By the end of SHB, the man was prepared to die for what he believed in. Now at the tail end of EW, he's finally managed to find his 'calm'.
