"As far as I can tell, Newsom has not spent political capital in support of a single major housing bill, let alone personally twisted arms in the legislature to get it passed." The legislature ultimately deserves the blame for not fixing the crisis, but Newsom seems to be MIA.
As I write here, Newsom could have actually thrown the weight of the governor's office behind pro-housing legislation. He's been an unusually weak and passive governor in his dealings with the legislature, especially compared to his predecessor. resnikoff.beehiiv.com/p/death-of-a...
