The problem with my side characters is that they come into contact with the main characters, which inevitably makes a mess of their day, even if unintentionally.

Hey, guess who's got two thumbs and is opening to submissions on Aug 24? It's THIS MAG. Actually, I guess the magazine doesn't have any thumbs, but I—JJA—do, and I'm eager to get them all over dem horror stories after 6 years out of the editorial chair. I guess it will mostly be my other fingers.

This is why we signal boost each other, review and blurb good books, and try to support each other when life pours it on. Without community, you'd only have the abyss. And the abyss is one of those friends who's only really good in group settings. Never ride home alone with the abyss.

One of my favorite minor hobbies is letting my mother know what idioms are just our family. She is always amazed. "No one else says 'well, that's life in the pickle factory'???" No, Mor, they really don't.
