The housing emergency has created an expensive, poor quality and divisive asylum accommodation system. So 51 organisations have written to Andy Burnham to tell him he already has the answers to housing all people in need. Our letter is on his desk. https://bit.ly/4fRRMHw
This is the worst most of us will face this summer 👇 Climate breakdown is destroying 9 of the top 10 countries people flee to reach safety in the UK. But it's not grounds for asylum. Our care is unconditional because healthcare is a human right ➡️ shorturl.at/NXp1B

🔴 Mass asylum camps are a healthcare violation. For a year we ran a clinic at Wethersfield ex-military site, treating men seeking safety. 68% were survivors of violence. 62% had severe mental distress. 30% suicidal. The Home Office MUST #CloseTheCamps & scrap ALL plans to open more.
Shutting people seeking sanctuary in ex-military barracks is dangerous, traumatising and cruel. And every night in barracks costs over FIVE TIMES more than a night in a home in a community. So can anyone explain why the Government wants to open MORE camps?

This debt will cost people their health. £10,000, charged for support received while banned from working. The Government's debt will pressure people into unsafe work, housing, and poorer health just to pay it off. It's the same trap as NHS charging. You cannot punish people for seeking safety.
Refugees would be told to repay around £10,000 under new asylum bill
The Home Office will be given powers to recover costs from adults who have received asylum support under new laws.

Healthcare is a human right, not a privilege. Sweden was found to have violated that right by charging migrants for medical care. The UK Government does the same with NHS treatment. It's time the UK was held to the same standard.

The European Committee of Social Rights has ruled that Sweden violated the right to healthcare by denying EU migrants equal access and charging full treatment costs for care.

Every day in our clinics, we meet people too scared to get the healthcare they need. New @healthfoundation.bsky.social evidence confirms that charging migrants for care and sharing data with the Home Office is keeping people away from treatment. The NHS must not be an immigration enforcement tool.
The NHS is often part of debates on immigration. But what does the evidence say? Our new briefing finds the average person who migrates to the UK is more likely to work in the NHS, less likely to use health services and contributes significantly to NHS funding. Read more⬇️ https://bit.ly/3SI3ECF
The EU approved far-right plans to share medical data with immigration enforcement for deportations. This is how trust in healthcare is destroyed. Fear of detention and deportation pushes people away from the care they need. We strongly condemn this inhumane policy.

The scenes from Belfast last night are horrifying. Our thoughts remain with the victim of the knife attack, and with all those who have since been subjected to violence, intimidation, and fear.
We condemn the attacks in Belfast. Our thoughts are with the victim and everyone who has since been targeted in its aftermath. What we are seeing in Belfast is not a series of isolated incidents. It reflects how quickly normalised racist narratives can escalate into harm for entire communities.
