Nuisance and shitposter CEO @graze.social - talk to me about building on ATProto / Bluesky!
i dislike this beyond being factually incorrect, it is also missing the core problem with Big Tech Algorithms: it is a matter about who controls attention, not the algorithm itself /1
CEO Toni Schneider on protocols, community, and control. www.theverge.com/podcast/9743...
current feelings around AI: the CEOs shoveling slop into everything should be in jail but the guys spending upwards of $60,000 on elaborate, janky home rigs to run local models for no reason other than to see if it works are engaging in a long and semi-honorable tradition of computer toucher shit
I've done a lot of dumb programming in my life but I'm proud to say that stellate.app might be the dumbest.
STELLATE — draw a path through genre space
A generative music instrument. Draw a path across a star map of 274 genres and hear the music of wherever you are — rendered live in your browser, deterministic from a seed. By Paul Ford at Aboard.

Seventh in the atproto permissioned-data series: notifications. One self-keyed space per identity, every app writing through a create-only grant, and a reader you choose doing the triage. The self shape returns, direction flipped.
Permissioned Data Shapes: Notifications
A self-keyed space gives notifications a home you control: every app gets an append-only sink to write into, you pick the reader that turns them into pushes and emails, and allowing or revoking an app is an access control you already have.

Oh, this is wild, LMAO. Everyone, listen to this episode! The tl;dr for the peeps in academia: Remove the comments from your TeX files before uploading them to the arXiv. And don't put any sensitive data in there in the first place.
Hey! You! We made a @neverpo.st and put it out. Today! It's about people accidentally publishing gossip, API tokens, SSNs and CC #'s with their physics and math research papers. Also news about Max Shorts, France banning social media for teens, the Delhi Jantar Mantar protests and more.
My favorite client sent me a gift (a dead flea that a nun dressed in a tiny bride? costume sometime around the turn of the 20th century)
RIP Kavinsky. The DRIVE (2011) title sequence (and prologue) is just one of the most magnetic and successful sequences in movie history and it's impossible to imagine any track other than "Nightcall" in it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=yc_z...

Wonderful talk by @sjgreenwood.bsky.social about @paper-feed.bsky.social! Custom feeds on Bluesky are unique resources for researchers interested in recommendation algorithms #IC2S2 Featuring many Bluesky friends like @graze.social @devingaffney.com @kissane.myatproto.social @aendra.com
people should be taught situational awareness in schools: don't stop in the middle of a trail/sidewalk if others are around, have your money ready, don't walk abreast a path if you're a slow-ass group, pay attention to the stoplight, etc.
Do you have any extremely niche, but serious, ethical stances?

becoming increasingly bullish on the AI stack: - atproto for identity+auth+persistence - iroh for low-latency networking+out-of-band communication
I’ve been working on an Exaclidraw fork for about a week that syncs your drawings to your Atmosphere account as well as uses Iroh for realtime encrypted end to end collaborative work. I feel like it’s at a stage where I can share it. Meet lexidraw.app!
drunk girl trying to tell her friends that she thinks they are “weekend at Bernie’s” with McConnell, but she has got completely the wrong movie and keeps calling it “doing a Fish Called Wanda” with him and I’m dying
[reclining] why is shark week different from all other weeks

This feels like a possible story someone might want to pick up on: a Meta AI-Auto ban with no human review for saying “cocaine” @caseynewton.bsky.social, @carolinehaskins.bsky.social, @taylorlorenz.bsky.social?
Insanely, @cousinronnie.bsky.social's company did an instagram live selling antiques and they said something had the word "cocaine" on it and now their small business is banned from instagram live for a year because an AI tool flagged it and there's no human customer support - and no recourse!
Free @cousinronnie.bsky.social !

Ironically, Streamplace bans you if you don't mention cocaine at least once per stream. Sorry, I don't make the rules! (I totally do)

One of the worst features of modern life is the ability of social media companies to destroy users by whim, with no recourse, no accountability, and no expectation of any type of adjudication process whatsoever. It's extra gross when it's an AI doing it, but it's also totally fucked if it's a human
