I joined my STEM Scholars for a behind the scenes visit of the Belt Railway of Chicago in Bedford Park. From freight operations to infrastructure planning, STEM Scholars got a firsthand look at the engineering that keeps our region moving.

This morning, I convened a roundtable discussion in Lisle with AARP, Age Options, AgeGuide, LeadingAge, DuPage Senior Citizens Council, Advocate Health, Lurie Children’s Hospital, and local advocates to mark the 61st anniversary of Medicare and Medicaid.

Today, I met with the physicians and staff at West Suburban Women's Health to discuss the challenges facing independent women's healthcare practices and what it will take to ensure patients continue to have access to high-quality care.

This week, as our nation recognizes 61 years of Medicaid, the state of healthcare is moving in the wrong direction. As we recognize Medicaid's legacy, we should work to protect and strengthen it, not gut it. I'll keep fighting to ensure every family can access affordable, quality healthcare.

We need an affordable America. Congress has to work to lower costs, address the challenges families are facing, and deliver solutions that make a difference in our communities. That’s why I’ve introduced legislation, like the Energy Bills Relief Act, that can help make life more affordable.
