Colleagues. If you have been asked to review a file for Tenure and/or Promotion don't forget to not only say yes but to actually write the letter (and don't be an asshole). Since the pandemic, much like referee reports for journal articles, its been brutal to get these in for candidates.

Thank you @daniparadis.bsky.social! Yes! Jason Kenney is now trying to use a limp garden hose connected to a tap with water restrictions on a dumpster fire for which he provided the fuel and the matches. Some folks see through the glow up. www.theglobeandmail.com/opinion/arti...

Opinion: Jason Kenney is trying to stop the separatists. But he deserves some blame for their rise in the first place

As premier, he gave vent to some of the grievances that now animate the movement

Canadians tell Carney to shift to British spelling in federal protocol

A flurry of emails to Carney followed news last December that promoters of Canadian English objected to the federal government’s use of British spelling in official documents.

A lot of people don’t know this. I write about this in my Public Finance text about inequality and reparations. It is interesting how much student’s thinking changes when you add the tidbit about the original compensation (and the origin of unpaid internships that followed abolition)

The Slavery Abolition Act of 1833 gave compensation to those who had enslaved humans to account for the confiscation of 'their property' & 'loss of assets'. Of course, the formerly enslaved population received no compensation. Money received by those who fought against the Slavery Abolition Act. 2/

The 2026 Statement by PM @mark-carney.bsky.social on Emancipation Day. www.pm.gc.ca/en/news/stat... It's much better than the 2025 one. It could still be better. Emancipation Day is complicated and I can talk. I am a living legacy of those who were enslaved and those who enslaved others. 1/

Statement by Prime Minister Carney on Emancipation Day

Slavery existed here – in New France, in the Maritimes, in the households of the powerful.

I was going about my business yesterday when I collected my mail and I saw I got a royalty statement from one of my publishers. Not thinking much, I opened it and it was for my mum’s estate the gets royalties from a same publisher. Catches me off guard every year.

Absolutely! With whom does the premier have to “check” to see if using the Alert system to find a missing neurodivergent child is OK? The fact that the conversation continues while the child remains missing is heartbreaking … and a demonstration of poor provincial leadership.

While i appreciate there are some assholes in Alberta who were offended by the alertt last weekend, most Albertans are heartbroken by this because we still hope for what is unlikely. As we clasp our neurodiverse selves and kids www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

Since the National Post wants to continue to elevate residential school denialisms, I’d like to point out that in Ireland it took 50 years from evidence to desecration to happen. And that excavation happened for white children. I am not at clear why so many are so determined for desecration in 🇨🇦

Hive mind. I have winters as my academic summer because chinooks are too cruel to my brain. If I were to give Halifax a go for these four months as respite anyone recommend a place to rent near Dal…near Vienna street?
