This may be one of the worst headlines I have ever read. “Found in rubble” erases who killed them. “Nearly a whole clan” turns parents, children, grandparents, aunts and cousins into a vague mass. “Mass funeral for 112” makes the burial, not the massacre, the story. Every word shields the killers.
I’ve now had several people involved in West Michigan politics that Hillary Scholten is polling to lose—flipping the seat red. So, maybe she’s just bitter. Checked out. Figuring out that first private sector check.
Seriously tho. Go find @abdulelsayed.bsky.social’s 2007 UMich Graduation speech.
This clip might be of interest to you.
Abdul El-Sayed was outspent 9-to-1 by AIPAC and corporate Super PACs in the most expensive Senate Democratic primary of all time. Last night, he proved that organized people can beat organized money.
Notably not an endorsement of the nominee for senate
Hillary Scholten certainly provided us with a statement.

I spoke with former Rep. Andy Levin about the #MiSen race. Levin lost his seat to Haley Stevens in 2022 after AIPAC spent $4 million against him over his stance for Palestinian statehood. He had this to say about Michigan being a "swing state": theintercept.com/2026/08/05/m... @theintercept.com
A big takeaway for a lot of Dems in 2024 was that Biden/Harris, as the incumbents, running on "things are good" when voters did not feel that way ended up hurting their vote. The GOP scolding their supporters and falling into the same trap will backfire on them.
for reasons that only make sense if you're insane, a TPUSA kid complaining about burrito costs on xitter has the GOP's biggest divas going for each other's throats.
I am sure Jack White loved to have his song used to needle Trump and the GOP.
The rules of the game have changed. Because of you, Michigan. We cannot be bought. Onto November.

Our statewide ticket is ready to win! Let's unite behind @jocelynbenson.bsky.social, @ESavit.bsky.social, @garlingilchrist.bsky.social and @AbdulElSayed.bsky.social to elect leaders who fight for the people — not the powerful.
Mike Rogers wants us divided. But there is so much more that unites us than sets us apart. The power is ours. This land was made for you and me.
I mean this sincerely: I think pro Israel people really need to begin internalizing that this is not a fringe opinion anymore and in fact is very statistically likely to be the average view of any brown Democratic candidate for office or any candidate under the age of 50
extremely satisfying seeing someone eat their laken-riley vote
Angie Craig, Peggy Flanagan spar over fraud, immigration in U.S. Senate debate
The DFL candidates butted heads during an MPR News debate over their records on key policy positions and sought to make the case that they were best suited to advance to the November ballot.

it’s gonna be so nice to see angie craig lose
AIPAC is the biggest source of Republican money in Democratic elections, and now they are making clear they will spend even more to defeat Democrats in November. They advocate for policies the vast majority of Democrats viscerally disagree with. No Democrat should be taking money from AIPAC.
Karl Rove's little whiteboard on Fox News, lol. Like... idk, man. I'm not sure that the strategy of expecting people to know a bunch of Hasan Piker lore AND them caring enough about it to the point that it affects who they vote for is going to work, but okay.
Our 3 endorsed candidates in Michigan faced over $70 million in combined outside spending. Their people-powered campaigns faced the full weight of a Democratic establishment that’s desperate to maintain the status quo. And all 3 of these real Democratic fighters won! This is a political earthquake!
There Will Come Soft Rains day was yesterday. Today, August 5th 2026, it ends. ➛ thisisnthappiness.com/post/8241101...
As a minority born and raised in Michigan. As the son of a UAW auto worker. As someone who knows what it feels like to be judged by your name. Today feels pretty good.
The co-founder of the 2024 National Uncommitted Movement, Abbas Alawieh, decisively won his primary to become a State Senator in Michigan. Abbas was endorsed by both Bernie Sanders and Gretchen Whitmer. Abbas Alawieh also privately met with former VP Kamala Harris last month upon her request.
The GOP doesn't get punished if this country doesn't elect more leftists.
you can tell he’s cooked by how often he willingly wears a suit these days
Wolf Blitzer: Why is Israel, another country, your red line right now, this is what your critics are saying, rather than a domestic issue that impacts Americans' everyday lives? John Fetterman, visibly confused throughout the entire interview: Yeah, absolutely.
Last night, we celebrated an unprecedented win for people-first politics in Michigan. But today, I want to make one thing very clear: THE JOB’S NOT FINISHED. The mission is to beat Tom Barrett and send an unbought, independent-minded representative of mid-Michigan to Congress.
Donavan McKinney's win means that Detroit has a Black representative again. That's meaningful for a whole lot of folks. (And now certain ones can stop dreaming about taking back Rashida's seat, because that's not happening. LOL!)
I don't think I can remember a US politician with better messaging than this man. Ever. And that includes Mamdani. Run him for President.
The historic results last night are a testament to what we've known: Democrats win when we center the people. Democrats win when we fight for bold policies that go as broad and deep as the hurt our communities are facing. Democrats win when we don't moderate our aspirations.
Abdul’s win last night felt revolutionary in more than one way.
There is now set to be at least nine democratic socialists in Congress. Donovan McKinney – alongside Melat Kiros, Claire Valdez, Darializa Avila Chevalier, Brad Lander, and Chris Rabb – will join Bernie Sanders, Rashida Tlaib, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
