Matt Chapman had an MRI that confirmed a core muscle injury and he will see Dr. William Meyers in Philly next week. If it’s a sports hernia that requires surgery, Chapman would be out for the season. Tony Vitello acknowledged surgery is a possibility.

Gotta say, after what it took to get Skubal, I didn't think the Giants would get much for the three players they were likeliest to move. They've exceeded my expectations, anyway. It'll make an even bigger impact if they smartly reinvest the ~$12 million they saved in their three trades.

The Giants will take half the money owed to Robbie Ray, including half the $1 million assignment bonus, in the trade to San Diego. They get Joniel Hernandez, a 17 year old SS from Cuba who got a $1.4 million bonus in Jan. and RHP Miguel Mendez, who was a top-5 prospect in SD system.

Eventful Single-A debut for Josuar Gonzalez. He singled (109 mph EV) in his first at-bat, stole a base, made two outs on the bases (one appeared to be a bad call), made a diving catch of a knuckling line drive at SS, and then exited in the middle of his third at-bat with a groin cramp.

The Giants have signed or expect to sign 19 of their 21 draft picks. Their final two selections, Gonzaga IF Mikey Bell and Ole Miss RHP JP Robertson, are returning to school.

The update on Harrison Bader is not good, either. He has continuing soreness in his foot because of what the Giants are officially calling plantar fasciitis. On Monday he will be sent to see Dr. David Porter in Indianapolis.

Trevor McDonald has a "moderate UCL sprain," Giants say. In other words, a partially torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow. He's going for a second opinion, presumably about whether to undergo Tommy John surgery.

Bryce Eldridge became just the fifth player in the Giants' San Francisco era (and first since 1977) to hit 10 home runs before his 22nd birthday. The others: Jack Clark, Chris Speier, Willie McCovey and Orlando Cepeda. (Some guys named Mays and Ott were among those who did it in New York.)
