Associate Editor at Boom! Studios. I’m what the French call “les incompétents.” Opinions and terrible jokes are my own.

In addition to being my first day at the new job, today was the baby’s first day at daycare. An anxious day for her parents, but she reportedly had a blast and napped better than she does at home, so I guess she’s already moving out.

Genuinely baffling to me that chatbots could be seen as an appealing research tool, let alone an addicting one. They make stuff up and get basic points of fact wrong constantly. That disqualifies any source in my mind, including any downstream sources that would reference this garbage.

Part of my daily practice has become playing baby songs on the accordion. Simple melodies and 2-3 chord harmonies are pretty well within my wheelhouse, so I’ve been setting myself the challenge of taking them through all twelve keys. Weirdly, the keyboard side is the bigger weakness right now.

We’ve settled into a morning routine where H pulls the baby into bed for her first feed, with the hopes that she’ll doze between us. A kind of milk snooze button. It’s a sweet tradition, though it’s losing its luster now that the baby is big and strong enough to forcefully kick me in the groin.

Fun story: when I was in charge of my university’s weekend-long trivia contest, players searching for the answer to the final question mistakenly called a guy that ultimately had nothing to do with anything. That guy was angry enough about the calls to reach out to me after the contest to complain…

can’t tell yall enough what a breakthrough it was for me to learn from this interview that most people just want to feel like they’re being obeyed they rarely follow up on whether you actually obey them

I cannot emphasize enough that any belief that isn’t supported by actual, verifiable evidence is equal to all other beliefs that aren’t. There’s no excusing one as harmless because the “reasons” to believe it are indistinguishable from those that support the ones you agree are harmful.

“This is pure, uncut, black-tar slopulism injected straight into the vein. Investors owning less than one percent of housing is not the reason why any American families struggle to afford a home. Rental houses are not ‘off the market.’” www.liberalcurrents.com/everything-i...

The baby will get in these chatty spells where it seems like she’s really trying to communicate, like she’s some kind of Moira MacTaggert-style adult consciousness trapped inside a baby body. Then I’ll catch her trying to get her foot in her mouth and my suspicions are banished.

Donating a fraction of his wealth to fund public and school libraries across the country seems like such an obvious slam dunk for the online bookstore guy. Just pretend like literacy was his mission all along, and he could buy some goodwill. Instead, he’s out here with the world’s smallest violin.

Amazon executive chair Jeff Bezos accuses U.S. politicians of villainizing the ultra-wealthy and using tax policy as a political wedge issue to distract from bigger challenges facing the country.
