Biologist studying transposons, gene regulation and chromatin in the Jullien group. Postdoc @ibmp-cnrs.bsky.social (Strasbourg, France).

[⚠️JOB ALERT⚠️] We are looking for a Research assistant (IE for those familiar with the French system) in molecular biology to run DAPseq in the lab. 18 months contract (to start) Start date: October 1st. Exprience in library prep., in vitro transcription/translation system or DAPseq is a must.

A stress response can be a great starting point for discovering new biology! By following genes regulated during the chloroplast unfolded protein response, we’re discovering novel factors involved in chloroplast homeostasis. Here’s the first one we characterized: www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...

bioRxiv/medRxiv have been dealing with endless bot attacks recently (plus usual DDOS stuff, etc). Tricky to address without impacting genuine users - many of you affected. Apologies. We're working with our hosting service on solutions & think we're getting there [he shouts in his Red Queen costume].

1/7 New preprint: we found that Chlamydomonas carries a giant and unexpectedly elaborate chloroplast RNA polymerase with 12 previously unknown subunits, overturning the idea that the complexity of this organellar enzyme emerged during plant terrestrialization! www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...

The structure of a 2-MDa chloroplast RNA polymerase reveals unexpected evolutionary complexity

Transcription in chloroplasts depends on the Plastid-Encoded RNA polymerase (PEP), a bacterial-derived enzyme whose catalytic core remains encoded by the highly reduced genome inherited from the cyano...

The fact that Americans thought Auxin was a “Hoax from Europe” rightfully got some attention in my latest #PlantScienceClassics post. But it’s actually even funnier if you learn about the context & consequence of White speaking these words to Went at the AAAS Meeting in Pittsburgh. #PlantScience 🧪 🧵

Marc Somssich@somssich.bsky.social · 5mo ago

When Frits Went once failed to demonstrate the effect of auxin at an AAAS meeting, it was White who loudly declared “that the auxin business was obviously a hoax and that it was high time that these charlatans from Europe were sent back to where they belonged”. An experience that shook Went.
