Over the past few days, I've been hiking in Glacier National Park, reading the book Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer, and reading through Walt Whitman's Leaves of Grass. It's every bit as wonderful as it sounds.

A bit hard to see all the way into the nest, but if you look real closely you can see the vague, alien shapes of the four baby wrens that hatched in the flower pot on our porch. It's pretty awesome.

The first episode of Stuart Fails to Save the Universe was an absurd amount of fun. It's a sugar high of a show that feels like reading a comic book. Kevin Sussman, Brian Posehn, Lauren Lapkus, and John Ross Bowie are a brilliant team.

Edits on the WIP continue. I'm probably a little over 50% of the way through draft two, which is exciting. I think this draft is tightening the story up while expanding some of the character motivations a bit. This is definitely the longest fiction piece I've ever created. It's been fun.

A little over 200 pages into Whalefall by Daniel Kraus. It's hard to think of a more visceral reading experience, rocketing between beautiful and horrifying with ease and with a giant, beating heart at its core.

It sucks to discover an artist a little too late. I didn't listen to Course of Empire back in the 90s. They weren't one of the Dallas bands I followed. I'd heard the name but not the music. Recently, one of their drummers (Chad Lovell) passed, and I started listening. Wish I'd heard them before.

I finished listening to "Rumble Fish." I'm on a bit of an S.E. Hinton kick, I guess, because I dove right into the audiobook of "That Was Then, This Is Now." I'm amazed by how sharp and real her writing feels.

Someone said to me, "I'm sorry but I got your book from a library." Nobody should ever apologise for that. You read my book! That's brilliant! I grew up hanging out in libraries and the idea of a world without them fills me with dread. Without libraries, authors, like readers, will only suffer.

James Kochalka writes books that make me feel like a kid again, reading the comics that my friends would make and pass around at school. Johnny Boo is a longtime favorite. Awesome to see the books presented as a collection.

I'm listening to the audiobook presentation of S.E. Hinton's Rumble Fish. Amazingly, I haven't read it before now, given how big an impact "The Outsiders" had on me as a kid. When I look back on my reading life, reading it for the first time was definitely foundational.

Congratulations to Spain for winning the 2026 World Cup. Spain's defense was on a whole different level throughout this entire tournament. Hats off to Martinez from Argentina, who played one heck of a game, too.
