Labour Party Conference has got off to a great start this year. It’s always brilliant to meet with Labour members, delegates and causes from right across the country - and sing the praises of our great city of Oxford too.

ICYMI - our joint letter to @ofcom.bsky.social and the Business Secretary on Royal Mail delays. Here in Oxford East we've experienced prolonged problems with deliveries, despite the hard work of our local posties. I hope this collective approach from affected MPs will lead to action.

Oxford's connection with Nepal is strong. So the disastrous flood this August has hit many local people and their families hard. The UK and Nepal must now work together - to highlight the appalling impact of the climate crisis, and call for global action

It was great to meet with Laura Frigenti, the CEO of the Global Partnership for Education. GPE does a huge amount to help countries develop stronger education systems, tackling the root causes of barriers to learning.

I'm pleased to see @andyburnham.bsky.social putting AI principles and standards at the heart of the UK's G20 presidency. Of course there are huge challenges in the way of coming to a global agreement. But if security and safety are taken seriously, they can be overcome.

Wow, there was a great turnout of Labour members this week to support Sagal Abdi-Wali. She’d be such a strong voice for Holborn and St Pancras. It was lovely to speak with lots of local residents who are backing Sagal - including one of her schoolmates!

The testimony of survivors interviewed by BBC Panorama was deeply disturbing. It must not be the case that, in the words of one survivor, there are still men out there who were involved yet have been “allowed to get on with their lives.” 1/2 buff.ly/jVcVcWX

My response as the Botley Road finally reopened, after three and a half years 👇

I’m really pleased that from today, passengers on Chiltern trains to and from Oxford will be travelling on a public railway! Passengers should always be put before profit so it’s great that is now the case for Oxford’s users of Chiltern services 🚆🌹

After three and a half years, Botley Road is finally open again. It’s a huge relief for local residents and businesses. But I will keep pushing for lessons to be learned from why this project was delayed for so long.

Oxford is an amazing visitor destination. Many local people and businesses have told me an overnight levy could make Oxford even better for tourists, and also for residents. I’m calling for us to get the powers to introduce a levy and the improvements it could bring, through devolution 👇

It was good to meet with Tulasi Paudel from Help for Nepal and the Nepalese Community Oxfordshire to talk about the devastating floods and their impact on the people of Nepal.

While positive steps are being taken, I know from following local casework on this issue that delays in the Coroners' Court can cause significant distress to families. I asked the Government what more can be done, today 👇

Like many in Oxford I’d heard of Slade Camp/Park, but knew very little about this once-thriving community, now only visible through traces in the woods. So it was an eye-opening privilege to attend tonight’s celebration alongside many former residents. 1/2

The problems with school transport in Lib Dem-run Oxfordshire are now so bad that other Lib Dem’s are calling them out! I hope the County Council will heed these calls, sort this situation out and learn the lessons from what’s happened.

Oxfordshire Lib Dem MPs have written to Cllr Gaul at OCC to express concerns with the lack of information given to parents of children with SEND on school transport arrangements. Children have missed their first days of school, some being told the disruption could continue until October.

Since we first wrote to the County Council last week about school transport issues, additional concerns have emerged about how the service is managed. See below the letter we sent to Cllr Gaul 👇️

My reaction to today’s announcement concerning Local Government Reorganisation and its impact on Oxford residents.

Well done to Cowmead Allotments committee and all the green-fingered folk who donated produce for today’s open day. Got there just before the end and was still lots of lovely fruit and veg there 🍏🫛🍓🍇 Impressive given difficult growing conditions recently with the drought.

It was an honour to attend the Oxford Timorese Association’s event today commemorating the “popular consultation”. Well done to Mrs Adelaide Fahic, her team and all of the performers and other volunteers for this event that’s open to all in Blackbird Leys Park!

AI holds enormous promise. But we can’t ignore recent cases where agents ‘broke free’ from human direction. The UK must work with other countries to regulate frontier model AI.

I’m grateful to everyone who supported my amendment to stop the arms race in political finance by lowering the campaign spending cap. It’s good the Government has asked the @electoralcommission.org.uk to respond to this. I urge it to do so as speedily as possible.

It's brilliant to see even more local primaries opening free school breakfast clubs.  Great for kids. Great for learning. Great for Oxford families.
