I got one of these calls. I realized it was a scam after a few minutes, but these guys are very convincing and aggressive and have a surprising amount of sensitive information about their targets. Brave new world of scams out there.

I actually think Americans would love the multi-league promotion/relegation system (for sports that are popular here). Imagine if a basketball team from Hartford or Akron could get promoted to the NBA and immediately 10x its revenue. Imagine if you could watch the Dallas Cowboys get relegated.

One soccer take I don’t buy is the idea that the US doesn’t send its best athletes to play soccer. I’m not sure that LeBron or Tom Brady or whoever would actually be as good at soccer as they are at their actual sports? I just think we don’t develop the talent we have.

This stuff is just going to become a running joke with students, like DARE or whatever. They’ll probably quietly discontinue it in a few years.
