So, how are we all explaining the climate crisis to our young children? My 8 year old has been getting increasingly worried about the hosepipe ban. I've reassured him that we're not running out of water, but I reckon he can tell I'm hiding the big picture bad news from him...
<Opens podcast app> "Hi, I'm Andy Burnham, let me squeeze around this elephant to talk to you about bus fares." <Opens TikTok> "Andy again. Don't mind this massive trunk, here's a handy money-saving tip." <Opens sock drawer which is 99.9% elephant> "Hallo citizen..."
Very weird to be living for weeks through what has so far been the worst UK drought since records began and for the Prime Minister to have still said absolutely nothing about it
YES! This needs to be tattoed on the brain of every educator and student in the world. The heart of the nub of the point.
Working on an A.I. policy for my calculus classes. Decided to be upfront about the current situation with LLMs and to give a heartfelt explanation for why the course still matters.
I’m in awe, this is incredible. www.instagram.com/reel/DbsUZ-8...

today's youth will never have the experience of scrolling the 40 or so channels you had at 1 AM on a friday night looking for something interesting or horny and catching the back half of eXistenZ without having any idea what it was
It’s hard to explain but tv was better when you couldn’t watch the show you wanted whenever you wanted to watch it and most of the shows were worse and the TVs were worse and the entire experience was worse, that’s when it was better
if they're drinking nounwine it's fantasy. if they're snorting a verb it's sci fi
Jim Henson didn’t muppeteer a tiny green frog that was singing and playing the banjo, with rubber gloves while totally submerged underwater in a airtight aluminum tank just so you could tell me that AI is “inevitable”.
The Wachowski sisters didn't use 120 cameras to film one shot just so you could tell me that AI is "inevitable."
My wife shouting from the living room: "I hope you haven't spent your entire month's salary on something unnecessary and expensive again" Me: "DON'T COME IN THE BATHROOM"
it's always odd when "you should expose yourself to more diverse ideas" always means a certain kind of conservatism instead of like, Indigenous art, new fusion foods, math paradoxes, or the Dvorak keyboard layout
The fact that Rod Liddle and Franco Baresi both died ages 66 is really making me question the benefits of exercise and healthy living.
The “best” thing about genAI (the quotes are doing heavy work here) is that it’s really lowered the bar on getting into hand-made art. Literally anything you make is better than ai. There’s never been a better time to throw away your fear and start learning that craft you’ve always wanted to learn.
Stop calling me an amateur. I've been doing this for decades. I'm incompetent.
Brilliant letter from Stuart Thompson to Jeremy Clarkson about his comments that benefit claimants should write weekly thank you letters to tax payers detailing how they spend their benefits each week.
Sadly, there's no more. RIP Jimmy Cricket. Worth watching @herring1967.bsky.social's RHLSTP from a few years back. www.youtube.com/watch?v=GHAO...

Rod Liddle was a cunt. Not divisive, not controversial, not "trying to open the debate." In life or death, that should rightfully haunt you. We need less of his kind and more structured societal debate. Deliberately vilifying all kinds of people for cheap shots and cash is twatful. Full stop.
Minnesota Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve wearing a "Trans Kids Belong" shirt while her team played against (and beat) Sophie Cunningham and the Indiana Fever is such a big "hell yeah fuck you TERFs" moment.
The EU will require AI labels on any authentic-looking online content. Text, images, video and audio designed to look truthful must be visibly marked as AI-generated and contain a digital watermark to show the artificial origins of the content. Please can the UK have the same?
AI labels to be compulsory on authentic-looking content under EU rules
Companies must ensure people know when they are interacting with artificially generated images, audio and text designed to look real

The climate crisis would be freaking me out already if there was clear, competent and robust action to counter it and adapt society. The absolute crickets from Westminster is fucking terrifying and infuriating in equal measure.
We are in the third drought in five years. We have the National Trust and NFU - those radical types - sounding the alarm on unprecedented temperatures. But so little from any single figure in politics talking about the climate crisis.
It's proving to be a really challenging year for not celebrating the deaths of mid-level dreadful people.
god just sort of zoning out and making 20,000 different kinds of ants
Seems like 2026 is the year the "Climate change will manifest as a series of disasters viewed through phones with footage that gets closer and closer to where you live until you're the one filming it" post lands for everyone.
