Today, the @nolacitycouncil officially renamed the Treme Rec Center to the Jerome Smith Treme Recreation Community Center. Additionally, at the family's request, and with support from #TambourineAndFan, we will rename Hunter's Field after Big Duck to honor his legacy at a future date.
A legacy like Jerome “Big Duck” Smith’s deserves the highest respect from the City of New Orleans. Big Duck was many things to many people. He was a Freedom Rider and civil rights leader, but also a mentor, an advocate, and a friend to all who knew him.

I worked at Disney a while ago. Do you know why theme parks are so safe? Because OOSHA reps can walk the track on any ride at any time and any safety violation they see is a $10,000 fine. Each. Theme parks are not safe because the company cares. They're safe because it's cheaper to comply.
