Today, the @nolacitycouncil officially renamed the Treme Rec Center to the Jerome Smith Treme Recreation Community Center. Additionally, at the family's request, and with support from #TambourineAndFan, we will rename Hunter's Field after Big Duck to honor his legacy at a future date.

A legacy like Jerome “Big Duck” Smith’s deserves the highest respect from the City of New Orleans. Big Duck was many things to many people. He was a Freedom Rider and civil rights leader, but also a mentor, an advocate, and a friend to all who knew him.
Proud to stand with @together_neworleans as we make the final push for the Neighborhood Power Plan 🔋 We’re learning from previous storms to develop strategies to keep the lights on during storms. Look out for this voting item at an upcoming Climate & Sustainability Committee Meeting!
If you have a moment, please give this a look. A profound and moving tribute. youtu.be/icyft1dDr6g?...

Happy Birthday to my mom, Cynthia Hedge-Morrell!🎉 She’s the best mom (and Grandmother) that a guy could ask for and I wouldn’t be the man I am today without the support (and sacrifices) she’s made to get me here! Everyone please join me in wishing her a happy birthday!
#WATCH I’ve gotten a lot of questions about the proposed sanitation fee increase, so let’s talk about it. There’s a lot more to this than simply “the fee is going up.” youtu.be/E4mumG3VEMA

21 years later, Hurricane Katrina remains one of the defining moments in New Orleans history. For those of us who grew up here, Katrina changed everything. But it also showed us what makes this city so special: the people who stayed, the people who came back ... youtube.com/shorts/0ZQNG...

#WATCH As we approach the 21st anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, I wanted to share an interview I did with my mother, Cynthia Hedge-Morrell, to talk about her experience as a sitting councilmember during Katrina, what the news coverage gets right, and what it gets wrong. youtu.be/raMjRO-41SM

Demolition at Mercy Hospital is underway! The beginning of demolition is not only a major win for nearby residents, but for users of the Lafitte Greenway as well. This moment is 20+ years in the making ...
I’m incredibly saddened to hear of the passing of local LGBTQ+ historian and activist Frank Perez. Frank was a tireless advocate for his community, and my office was proud to work alongside him on a variety of projects, like the LGBT+ Archives Project of Louisiana.
The people of New Orleans do think we’re special. ⚜️ History agrees. From the Louisiana Purchase to the birth of jazz, New Orleans has shaped our nation and continues to be one of the world’s great cultural destinations.
#DidYouKnow there's a proposed charter amendment on your fall ballot? Historically, the City of New Orleans' budget has been treated as a giant suggestion. Prior administrations could move funds around and spend at their discretion without any public feedback. www.youtube.com/shorts/ckUD-...

“How Meta Got Everything It Wanted” reminds me of city leaders crowing over their savvy deal with AirBnB, which was actually a giveaway to the industry. AirBnB once offered me $3000 to write a quick piece on New Orleans neighborhoods. I turned it down and you’re welcome.
A lot of what-the-hell moments in this story, but building a data center in a floodplain in Louisiana is inviting the wrath of Poseidon.
I worked at Disney a while ago. Do you know why theme parks are so safe? Because OOSHA reps can walk the track on any ride at any time and any safety violation they see is a $10,000 fine. Each. Theme parks are not safe because the company cares. They're safe because it's cheaper to comply.
Turns out that food companies were only checking their food because the government told them to, which is exactly why we need government regulations.
August 1st is Coming ⚔️ During the 2026 #lalege Session, the City secured major #SWBNO reforms with the passage of HB 1243. Now Act 938, the new law officially takes effect on August 1st, marking a new era of accountability for the Sewerage & Water Board. www.instagram.com/p/DbLdypOj2zp/

Fantastic turnout in Lakeview today for Coffee With The Councilmember! ☕️ We got lots of questions about Sewerage & Water Board and Code Enforcement, but one thing was very clear: residents believe the city is moving in the right direction.
