If you are trying to record lake ice without destroying your hydros, I'd recommend this DIY setup. Drill a hole, then thread the hydro through, then use a big piece of foam (with a slit cut in it), then bury the whole thing with lots of snow. The foam and the snow help keep the hole from re-freezing
