Today's GCSE results are mostly looking pretty stable: 70.7% of all grades 4 and above—up slightly from 70.5%; 23.1% at 7 or above—also nudging up from 23.0%. Even the share of entries being awarded grade 9 is the same as last year, not continuing to rise.

At this policy conference, researchers will present new evidence on the scale and causes of regional inequalities.

The paper by Carneiro et al. shows that places with strong labour markets also have higher equality of opportunity for kids who grow up in poor v. rich neighbourhoods. Education also matters: LAs with better schools and less academic segregation have more equality of opportunity.

And where it comes to formula: - all formulas are the same by law - the cheapest is always Aldi Mamia at £7.50 or so a tub (only own brand on the market) - follow-on milk is a marketing device to get round the ad ban - your baby doesn’t need it
