FWIW, I don’t think the major problem in my field, or related ones, is that people need to move faster & produce more. I read a lot of papers as part of the job, and I’m increasingly convinced we’d benefit from fewer papers and better ones, not more mediocre work produced ever more “efficiently.”

Folks are admiring Charles Barkley here & I commend him on using this platform to speak up, but I also want to encourage us all to stop using this “criminal” vs “amazing” immigrant dichotomy for which there was never any basis & allows this kind of brutality to be okay sometimes. It’s never ok.

ICE just arrested Brad Lander, the NYC Comptroller and one of the leading candidates for Mayor, without grounds. He was conducting routine immigration court work, escorting individuals from hearings. He asked ICE for their warrant - well within his legal rights. This is political intimidation.
