If we’re thinking out loud and not limiting ourselves here: I think it should also extend past individual documented victims, and also address the way whole communities were terrorized. I don’t know what that looks like, but investing in those communities seems important.

In addition to destroying ICE and DHS, we should probably start thinking about a reparations framework. If they keep records on which officers conduct arrests, we could make individual officers liable to pay damages to their victims.

A government shutdown doesn’t fix problems, it makes them worse. Hundreds of thousands of federal employees are locked out or forced to work without pay. Since Black workers make up nearly 20% of the federal workforce, our communities are hit especially hard when paychecks stop.

More than 300,000 federal jobs are already at risk this year. Black workers are overrepresented in many frontline roles — and those are always the first to face cuts. A shutdown makes it worse.

Every week of a government shutdown = $5 billion in delayed paychecks. That’s money not going into Black-owned businesses, local shops, and neighborhoods that depend on federal workers’ steady income.

Just spotted in the NYT: "A New York Times reporter was struck with a nonlethal round by officers late Sunday in downtown Los Angeles. The reporter was treated at a hospital but not seriously injured." That's at least five journalists I've heard of who ended up in ER or urgent care over weekend.
