Worn out. Work: unfamiliar new project and AI 🤯 Also: picked up the keys to my new house last Friday. Since then, I've either been doing my day job, or immediately at the house doing redecoration. Job: 8-4. House: 4-9. Every day. Need to get as much stuff done before I properly move in in 8 days.

On a new project at work, building a new application from scratch. First time we're heavily using AI to do it. And... Sure, it's impressive. Sure, it's possible to move much faster. But not only do I have to build more, I also get loads more code reviews to do. Task switching and pressure is rough.
Sure, what's yet another multi-hundred pound bill, it's all just abstract numbers at this point... 😬 Before I know it, it'll be Christmas, and gift expectations. Great. Moving house is expensive. I need break from all these expenses...
I still find it weirdly amusing to think that at some point, at the start of businesses requiring websites, the hardware store B&Q thought: "... shit"
I know it's weird to say, but... I'm getting very tired of so many online services being multi-factor-auth. Not everything needs it, I just don't care, let me in quickly, I don't want to have to grab my phone to log in every time, grrrrrr...
Maybe this is unprofessional, I dunno, but I refuse to start work meeting calls early. It's a matter of principle. If someone starts a call early, I make a point to wait until the actual start time. Even if it means literally just watching the clock until it ticks over. #MiniRant
Last Friday, I legally bought my first house. This specific house process has been going on for nearly 4 months, with house-hunting starting 5 months before that. There's still time-sensitive things I must do. But I mentally feel like I'm at the end of a marathon, and have very little left to give.
Today, brain went "nope". I've had *a lot* to think about for quite a while - as of Friday, I've now legally bought my first house. Entirely solo. Pick up the keys in <2 weeks. Still lots to do, decisions to make. Yet more expense. Need a no brain day today. Having one. No choice.
Feeling really lonely all of a sudden. Like I can actually sense the distance between me and anyone I care about.
Slightly awkward situation, but for fun reasons. I'm on a film set today. My character has scenes today and Friday. I've been asked to body double a major character, requiring *many* more scenes, lots more dialogue, and several fight scenes. It's cool, but... I did kinda hope for 2 days off.
On set today. I genuinely think not sitting at a desk all day is doing wonders for my back injury. Feels much better than it should for the third day. Who'd've thunk it... (everyone)
I think I'm gonna have to invest in a standing desk in the new house. One week of work after a 2 week holiday, I felt my back get progressively worse. Yesterday - *ping*. Desk work will be the death of me...
I think I'm going to do something that feels a little extreme. I use Google Tasks to log all the things I've been meaning to do, or or buy, or research etc. I have 110 tasks across 8 categories, over years. After making a backup, I'm going to delete *everything*. New house (almost), new start.
For the first time in quite a while... I'm actually struggling to find a TV show I want to watch. There's so many. I'm really bad at just picking something new and giving it a try. They all often require so much investment before it's clear whether it's worth continuing...
I read books quite often. A little of a novel before bed. I like to have one non-fiction book on the go. I've never found it more difficult. I feel my eyes moving over the words, and they're not going in. I start paragraphs, and find my thoughts have already wandered. It's incredibly frustrating.
Tried snorkeling for the first time today. I'm not a weak swimmer (wouldn't describe myself as "strong" though), and I was surprised that... I had mild panic way more than I expected. Water in the breathing tube, mask etc. It was cool, but it was much more challenging than I thought it'd be.
Show me some fun uyoe stuff! I'm in holiday in the Caribbean at the moment and missing furry stuff 😛
Urgh, modern software dev is no fun. At least, modern Vue with php. I'm adding one simple new field to two models, and displaying it in 3 places. And renamed one other variable, as it's set to a different value in the backend. Had to change 32 files.
Frustrated. Found a really lovely 3d print model of a werewolf. Printed it out beautifully. Discovered one hand has 3 fingers, the other 4. Almost certainly AI - I don't see why anyone would choose to do that. It's soured my appreciation of the figurine.
Finally watched the feature film I was asked to audition for a lead creature role for, but I withdrew as I couldn't afford the time off work. Remarkable film, some cool moments, but I can also see why it wasn't huge. Very arty, but it had to be, given the source material.
One of the many things I'm looking forward to in my new house (if it happens) is finally separating my "workshop" from my office. I *hate* having to go back into my office (the smallest room in the house) after a "hard" day's BS work, to work on fun creature stuff. It sucks all the joy out of it.
Had a big company call yesterday (remote), talking about our new product that was prototyped using AI vibecoding (I've not worked on it). The plan was always to scrap it and rewrite from scratch once we know what it should be. Head business guy: "But the app works now. Why can't we ship this now?"
Trying a new thing to exercise my idea generation muscle. Come up with at least 10 ideas daily, anything, doesn't even have to be realistic or actionable. My brain: "What's an... 'ideeear'?" #HeadEmpty
I feel like I'm constantly waiting. Waiting to do what I want, to achieve what I desire, to make my life how I want it to be. Some of it is indecision or uncertainty. Some of it is justified. Some of it is fear. A lot of it is excuses, valid or otherwise.
Something switched in my brain. I just couldn't take sitting in my 31.1C office any longer, doing pointless busywork that nobody cares about. I hit my physical limit. I'm now in my living room with the AC running, feeling relatively "cool" at 29.7C. Screw work.
This heat is getting really boring. I feel trapped in my living room, the only room with AC, that can only be cooled to 28C. The rest of my house is horrible. The outside is just paving, gravel, concrete, and brick, and unpleasantly hot. I'm bored. There's only so much YouTube I can watch.
My office is now 30.1C. I don't sweat all that much. I just get hot. So I've started just wetting down my head, neck, arms, and legs with cold water. Repeatedly. (It does help, though)
Gah, it's 08:13 and my home office is already 28.3C... Today is gonna be ROUGH.
*laughs* Oh Evri... "Sorry, your parcel has been damaged beyond repair in transit." (thankfully it's nothing important)
*starts home workout* "Huh, it's taking me longer to recover between sets, that's weird..." *looks over at thermometer* "Ohhh..."
