Critical fabulation requires an intimate knowledge of what is in and what is not in the archives. It means having a deep engagement with scholarship. It is not about making up fictitious histories. I am so tired of people failing to understand that. Lorde, hilfe.

An abomination. I teach Hartman in a course on archival methods in which we also read/watch fictional works. Last year, I asked the students to help me think through the relationship between what artists/scholars do in imagining/speculating with archives, and what AI does.
