MFA-haver and lowercase deadpanner. I don't want the world, I just want your half. (all views expressed here are mine, not my employer's.)
why is Wayfair furniture so SMALL? did I activate the wrong filter? is this a recession indicator?
Lot of people younger than me lately. What are we doing about this.
There is a lot of research that bisexual women are among the most likely demographics to experience abuse, assault, suicidal ideation, & attempt suicide. Hayden came out of the closet for the first time just this year, & now she’s gone, & there’s an active investigation, & I am so sad.
Absolutely fucking gutting
why does everything have to be so aggressively stupid, is my question

Imagine Shoeless Joe Jackson, disgraced should-be Hall of Famer, walking through the cornfield and seeing this absolute bullshit on the wall.
They protested to stop us from going to war against people who didn't do anything to us, for reasons we all knew were lies, and couldn't stop it. And since then there has never been a moment when we weren't at war. It'd be fucked if that *wasn't* a trauma.
Why do elder millennials (with no connection to the military) talk about GWOT like it was a world war level societal trauma?
one of my newest pet peeves: line breaks after every sentence in a post. I think it's supposed to add dramatic tension, but it just looks like everyone's twitchy about enjambment.
"I'm entitled to whatever I want whenever I want it for any reason and I don't care what satisfying these urges does to me or the world" well okay dude, seems like there's something deeper going on here, but that's just my take
Very handy catch-all info about disabling AI as much as possible
I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. I crowdsourced and then finalized this document "How to disable or avoid intrusive AI" and then gave it a short URL: notoai.org Please pass along if it's useful
There are a lot of people who were capable of being open-minded when Arabs and Muslims were simply the *subject* of US policy but whose response to those communities having an active role in American politics on par with other ethnic and faith groups has been to totally lose their shit.
I'ts hard to escape the impression that a certain faction of the Democratic Party just straight up does not believe that Arabs specifically -- and perhaps Muslims generally -- have a place as active players in American politics

the nostalgia diner industry should have aged past the 50s. I should be able to go to an era-accurate 90s diner, served a room temp Fruitopia by staff in babydoll dresses, there should be a Street Fighter 2 Championship Edition machine against the wall. They could sell Desert Storm trading cards.
I've been promoting this at work but somehow just realized that perhaps some of you locals would be interested too! come hang out with PA&L on August 20 for David J. Silverman's The Chosen and the Damned, with a book signing to follow. pittsburghlectures.org/lectures/dav...

I'm beginning to wonder if watching Mars Attacks!, Idiocracy, AND They Live within the same month is doing anything for my general levels of pessimism.
as something of a breathing enthusiast myself, I can't say I'm loving the air quality in Pittsburgh right now
God grant me the confidence of the woman who knocked on my car window halfway through Zoom therapy to ask if I was going to move.
The lesson from OCD I wish were more general: you cannot guarantee that bad things won't happen, and seeking reassurance keeps you from learning to be comfortable with risk, and being able to approach those risks realistically instead of panicking every time you hear of a new bacteria/virus/fungus
It seems bad for society that contamination OCD is socially acceptable now
it's not an own to point out that all these fucking guys trying to deny trans people their hormones are so into HGH and whatnot. they don't care either way about 'gender affirming care.' they want to be he-men and they want trans people to die. to them the two projects are perfectly coherent
I don't know who needs this reminder, but Michael Cera was in Twin Peaks: The Return.
"But showing them I was a person did nothing. Extending peace and goodwill did nothing. And here, for the first time, I faced the failure of the things I believed and practiced, and part of me started to give in. How could I owe love to people who wanted me dead?"
Magdalene Visaggio was once in seminary, training to become a Catholic priest. Now she's a snarky online trans girl like the rest of us. In a challenging new essay for Assigned, she writes about the toll being hated for who she is has taken on her psyche. assignedmedia.org/breaking-new...
i’m sorry but ‘literally died of hard heartedness’ is the most hack writing yet in an already weak season
WASHINGTON (AP) — Lindsey Graham died from aorta rupture stemming from hardening of arteries: preliminary finding from medical examiner.

posting this Classic over here in honor of the big man himself. adios bitch
A guy dropped his water bottle near me on the train, and when I handed it back to him he shook his head, put it back on the floor, and said: “It belongs to the world now.”
