Maybe if the AI people yell at me for the 5 millionth time about how I’m not using their dogshit technology that has made everyone’s lives worse I’ll finally start liking it for no conceivable reason.

One of my best moves this summer has been getting me and my elder cat on the same schedule for arthritis injections and blood draws. We hammer it out one morning a month, spend the rest of the day snuggled up waiting for our pain relief to kick in.

Today my bodega guy told me I’m the only person who ever notices when he gets a haircut, made this exact face 🥹, and gave me a free iced coffee. It’s SO easy to just be kind and curious about your neighbors, and it really does mean so much to them.

The DOT workers repaving my street are playing Robyn's Dancing Own My Own on the loudest, boomiest speaker I have ever heard in my life, and their trucks and bulldozers and asphalt flatteners are shaking the houses, and every gay man on my block is walking outside like a siren call.

Urgent care doc: I like to see my patients’ facial expressions and I can’t really do that when you’re wearing a mask. Me: Urgent care doc: I’m sorry, that really seemed to upset you. Me: Look at that, you clocked me going from smiling to glaring, even with my mask on!

Wife: Hey, sweetheart, I only have ten minutes before I have to get back to set. I miss you. How are you? Me: I Platinum Trophy-ed the video game I was playing when you left, on ultra hard mode! Wife: Okay baby but how ARE you? Me: I’m great! Did you hear me? Platinum Trophy? ULTRA hard mode?

Grocery store checkout teen: Bruh what is this song? Me: Rude Boy. Teen: Sorry, ma'am, I didn't see you there. Me: No, that's the name of the song. Rude Boy? By Rihanna? Teen: Oh, this is the oldies station, I guess.

My neighbor texted to ask if I knew how to get rid of bloodstains on clothes. I told her to pop down and grab a bottle of my homemade cleaner. She texted back “No questions about the blood, come get a potion. This is EVERYTHING I thought living near a lesbian couple would be.”

My wife and I packing for different trips. Her: You want some of these black KN95 masks? Me: Nah, you want some of these yellow ones? Her: Nah, I’m more Batman. Me: 😑 And I’m more…? Her: Big Bird. Me: Her: Me: Her: Me: ☺️ That’s true!

You gotta suspend a whole lotta disbelief to enjoy The Five Star Weekend, which I mostly did, but by FAR the biggest fantasy element was Regina Hall’s sports agent character making bank off of an NWSL player.

I’m always like “oh if I could only tell my younger self such-and-such about us now” and “little me would he so proud of this big me thing” — but tonight I experienced something Young Heather can never know. I … I sprained my elbow … playing Donkey Kong Country.

Golden State Valkyries forward Gabby Williams: “There’s a lot of discourse around trans athletes and what they can compete in. I would welcome a trans athlete on my team or against my team. Anytime. I don’t think it’s a problem in the world, it’s just another way to kind of attack trans people.”

Scheduler: The last five digits of your insurance? Me: P as in panther, K as in kitten, B as in bobtail, T as in tabby, J as in jaguar. Scheduler: You made your own phonetic alphabet based on cats? Me: Heh. Yeah, I guess. Scheduler: Alrighty, your autism assessment appointment is all set.

My neighbors had a baby and their six-year-old explained to me that the baby is “new,” that she herself is “kind of new,” that I am “almost old” and her parents are “full old.” And so. That’s the ages.

I have a favorite new show of the year and I'm here to yell about it!! #SterlingPoint is funny and emotional and dramatic and has such classic summer vibes and is deliciously gay and I *highly* recommend it. Escape to a small Canadian island with me! www.autostraddle.com/watching-ste...

Watching 'Sterling Point' Feels Like Going To a Super Gay Summer Camp

When she gets to the Canadian island she has inherited, Annie meets the local teens, who happen to be a fun and vibrant group of mostly queer people.

Guy doing TikToks at the bagel shop was giving out stickers if you could convince him you’ve lived in NYC long enough to be a Real New Yorker. I said “When I moved here, a quarter got you nine minutes of dryer time at my laundromat, now a quarter only gets you six minutes.”

Wife: How do you even use noise-cancelling headphones? It pinches the audio! Me: I don't know what that means but I know it's better than the alternative, which is me pinching off my own little neurodivergent head due to the torment of having to process multiple conflicting background noises!

Because my best friend and my wife grew up with Buffy and experienced the show during some of their most formative youthful moments, and I only watched Buffy well into adulthood, I never have anyone to talk to about the important fact of Joyce Summers being a gosh dang smokeshow!
