Blurb by @aijiang.bsky.social "After You Were Lost is a collection of melancholy with the bitterness of regret. Filled with tales of internal turmoil and heartbreak, along with love lost and explorations of age and death. Delmas has created worlds both expansive and emotional in such few words."

Publication day! 🥳🎉🙌 My collection "After You Were Lost" was published by WATG Press today. It's a collection that means a lot to me, and I'm excited that people will finally get to read it. All of the 23 flash and micro stories within deal with grief in different ways. Something I know much about.

Here's a blurb from @ivygrimes.bsky.social to show you what to expect. "After You Were Lost by Kai Delmas is an imaginative and heartbreaking collection of very short stories. These stories explore grief, love, forgetting, time, and strange new worlds. This will plunge you into a new state of mind!"

The ✨August 2026 Issue✨ is starting to go live, so here is an excerpt of this issue's Letter from the Editor! It's roughly 500 words on the myth of the genius (and the fragility of tech bros) Find it in our August Issue! havenspec.com And please subscribe or buy an issue and support small presses!

An excerpt from the Letter from the Editor in the August 2026 issue of Haven Spec Magazine.

The text reads: The tech bro is simply the latest iteration of the settler genius, and AI is only his latest weapon of conquest. But there is a deep and abiding insecurity at the heart of AI that stems, at least in part, from the myth of the genius. I imagine him standing before the bathroom mirror, speaking his tech bro affirmations: “It’s you, it’s you, it’s you,” he tells himself. “You’re the only one who might save this world.” But something tickles at the back of his throat, the doubt that grips all human hearts. What if I am not enough? I am the Boy King, the Nerd King, this world’s Tony Stark. I am the genius—so why am I feeling so human?

The letter was written by Leon Perniciaro.

Hey, guess who's got two thumbs and is opening to submissions on Aug 24? It's THIS MAG. Actually, I guess the magazine doesn't have any thumbs, but I—JJA—do, and I'm eager to get them all over dem horror stories after 6 years out of the editorial chair. I guess it will mostly be my other fingers.
