Just because it's an amazing stat, the Chicxulub asteroid impact, the one now almost universally cited as the decisive cause of the dinosaur era mass extinction event is thought to have had the force of roughly 5 billion Nagasaki nuclear detonation blasts.

My husband finally tested Covid negative last night. We’re waiting for a second test to see if it’s real. I think Stella may be the most grateful one in the house if we can stop this isolation.

During times of transition, I always think of the opening of Dune: "A beginning is the time for taking the most delicate care that the balances are correct." When I created this desert world, a drop of a more fertile future was added - a lake full of potential. #exoplanets from fiction #sciart

Reason #998 not to take my phone to bed: At 2:44am I woke up, decided the telescope I had setup & running should be pointed somewhere different. Since I could do this from my phone... I did. This would have been fine, except I forgot to restart the imaging sequence. The Perseids were not well met.

The good folks at starfront.space are letting me borrow a Seestar 30pro. Last night I managed to catch at least one Perseid Meteor (I have like 500 more images to review...). If this looks like it worked, I'll stream tonight, weather and internet willing. TIL: Wide-field remote obs are my jam.

A bright meteor streaks past the Andromeda galaxy.

It is day 5 of isolating in my home office next to the back bathroom while my husband with Covid isolates in the bedroom and uses the front bathroom. His covid is still a thing. I am still clear but will retest tonight. He is still definitely sick. The dogs are unimpressed.

My husband has Covid from a work trip. This means the dogs & I are hiding & I'm masking when I head into the kitchen. Being immune compromised means never letting up on masks & always worrying about those around me carrying germs. I'm grateful to at least live in a time when remote work exists.

On road trips we go out of our way to EV charge at a mall in Longview, WA, that’s been abandoned by most chains but has quirky local stores, a food pantry, a public library, and a bobo tea place with superb homemade steamed buns. All “dead” malls should be reclaimed by local communities like this.
