I remember once reading an interview with Charles Vess, years ago, in The Comics Journal. He was asked a question about what his goal was as an artist -- and he said that he wanted to be able to draw anything he could imagine. That stayed with me through the years and influenced me as a writer.

Don’t know where it came from but found this on my forearm when I woke up this morning. Yes, I am 70, but I’m a little intimidated by the fact that someone felt it necessary to tag me.

Me and Derek are going to be at Necronomicon in Providence this year. Derek will have a table in the vendor's room, selling prints and paintings (some of the prints, seen below), and I'll be doing the following panel about Ray Bradbury (fri.3pm) and a reading (fri. 5pm).

Media obsessions seen through the ambition of a wannabe journalist and a middle-aged woman who may or may not have killed a classmate when she was a child. A third-person POV protagonist and an unhinged woman who creates monstrous journal entries, emails, and audio recordings for a future podcast.

Karyn Sallis was kind enough to send me a copy of Jim’s last book — Backwater. It’ll be on sale on Sept 1st. Cover and front flap synopsis. This is the novel that Jim borrowed a paragraph from one of my stories for. See if you spot it. More importantly, though, pick up a copy when it drops.
