I’ve been diabetic for 31.9 years but I switched to a pump very young, in elementary school. So I think I gave myself a shot for the first time ever today.

I graded so much over the past few days that I kept waking up with my hand both numb and aching. I should maybe get the probably horrible carpal tunnel looked at...
Do any of the artists I follow here have a Medusa "The Female Gaze" shirt? I used to have one but it doesn't fit anymore. I can get it from the same place, but I'd rather support someone I know if they have it.
One month into teaching at the high school level and I’ve decided that high school students today have too much access to their teachers. When I was in high school, if I missed class I’d find a friend and if I had a question, I had to wait til I next saw the teacher.
As an update, if anyone has a digital copy of Skokie’s Reading Sulpicia I would be grateful.
If anyone has a collection of scholars criticizing Sulpicia’s poetry that you’ve collected for teaching or research purposes and are willing to share, I would be most grateful.

I miss the days of social media when this would have gone viral. It is /so/ good.
Odysseus, coming up with the idea for the Trojan Horse
Odysseus, coming up with the idea for the Trojan Horse
Did I spend an excessive amount of time the past few days making an introduction to literary devices with examples from both Latin poetry (mostly Vergil) and also modern examples from Taylor Swift? Yes. Yes I did.
I want to start a new sweater but also I’m being wimpy about what I actually want to do
Woke up to a rejection for a job that I applied to over the summer, that I clearly didn't get because the school year has started. What's the point? All it does is make me feel bad about myself again.
Here's the thing. Do I want to lose power? No. But would I take a day off Monday because of power outages in the area? Absolutely
In other news, I was finally able to get insulin for the first time since July. I really had to dip into my stash the last two months. Makes me nervous.
This has been out for about a month now, but I just got my author copy. I’m proud of all of my publications, but I’m especially proud of this one because 2 of the modern adaptations I analyzed are in Italian and I provided the translations myself.
I was sick for the first week with students, but felt better after the long weekend. Either I didn't get better or I caught something new from my students because I am sick again this weekend...
Does anyone have resources/commentaries for doing the Carmen Saeculare, the Ars Amatoria (esp. lines 1-40), and the Tristia (esp. lines 207-240) with high school students?
The worst thing about moving (besides the moving itself) is having to find all new go-to restaurants.
It may have only been 3 days, but I made it through my first week with students.
Added a new set of plates to my license plate graveyard this week. (2 sets of RI because they sent everyone new plates when they redesigned them) (No CA because it was cheaper to renew RI) (Yes I had to pay for new plates in MA even still having my old ones)
So apparently there’s a Law & Order: UK so of course I’m watching it. So many plots feel familiar from the US shows. And I spend so much time looking up cast only to learn they’ve been on Doctor Who or Game of Thrones (or both).
Sometimes I eat Jersey Mikes just for the pickles.
After sitting in California for 2 weeks, my stuff has now made it to Massachusetts before me
I just rewatched Guardians of the Galaxy and can’t stop thinking about the legacy of the Pygmalion myth when it comes to Nebula and Gamora. Thanos tried to recreate Gamora through tech with Nebula. Art vs. Nature.
I’m staying with my parents while my stuff makes its way to Massachusetts. Except the internet went out yesterday and no tech can come until Monday. Normally not an issue but I got a new phone and can’t remember my BU password…
I’ve been hinting at a cross-country move for a while… In two weeks I start as a Latin teacher at Sturgis Public Charter School in Hyannis, MA. All 9th and 10th graders are required to take Latin here, so I will be joining a faculty of 6 other Latinists across 2 campuses.
I have an idea for a social media thing (probably best fit for Instagram and TikTok) but also I don’t have the editing skills for text posts or videos…
Quite happy to be in Colorado for peach season this year.
Helaena deserved better, from everyone, not just Rhaenyra. Alicent failed her in so many ways.
If you want a really good imagining of what went on in Ithaca while Odysseus was gone, I recommend Claire North’s Ithaca (and the ebook is on sale in the US for $2.99)
Gollum translating the Odyssey: “Tell us, precious, about the tricksy hobbit, who…”
