I think I'm going to start offering an editing tier between dev edits and copy & line, where authors are content to make alterations between passes based on feedback -- rather than getting annoyed at being told they should maybe change the cake after they're ready to put the icing on :) #amediting

I am reminded that a large part of the reason CEOs are so gd wealthy is because their CEO buddies think they and all their buddies sh0uld be and have the authority and influence to make it so. Never mind the merits.

Everything laid out in Project 2025 was talked about openly as far back as 2010, and amplified by big VCs as far back as 2014, but most big CEOs didn’t start to fall in line until 2017 or so. By 2020, they pushed out most execs who didn’t agree with (or at least silently accept) this thinking.

I picked up The Lion a couple of years ago in a similar sale because the premise reminded me slightly of a Rosemary Sutcliff novel I loved as a kid. There were some commonalities of setting, but far more magic and a quicker pace, and I was hooked either way. Do recommend.

Remember when on Canada's Worst Driver, which was supposed to be a lighthearted show, it became kinda obvious that the show wasn't finding "ha ha bad driver" people, but were actually selecting for folks who had serious undiagnosed mental concerns & often real automotive trauma? Not so fun anymore.

I put on "Room 237," thinking it was a documentary about fun elements in Kubrick's "The Shining." But nope. The whole film is a demonstration of conspiracy theorists building narratives from their own preconceived notions & cherry picked info. Every day teaches me more than enough about that.

There's an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer where Cordelia wishes Buffy never existed. The whole show is gimmicky, like OOH THINGS ARE DIFFERENT. ie: Willow and Xander are vampires. Now imagine a whole sequel series following hammy alt vampire Xander. Anyway, this is a post about new Star Trek.

Star Trek at its best is didactic. It's a morality play in a sci fi costume. Every good episode has something to say about humanity, about the contemporary world, about SOMETHING. Strange New Worlds has gimmicks. It's fun, sometimes, but it has nothing to say. It's hollow and facile.
