It’s wild that politicians don’t seem to grasp the degree to which universities contribute to the economy- local, regional, national. The failure to intervene is a stain on this govt - a shocking dereliction of duty to every worker, every local business, every student, every area that is suffering

nothing quite like finishing a PhD in the UK right now. we were well prepped for never getting a position in academia but not, I don't think, the abject joblessness we would graduate into. (tl;dr it's the week of my hand in and I have already had multiple job rejections)
