There's Twitter discourse about how both parents should work because "kids like to have alone time." I feel like I'm going insane. There are SO MANY factors people consider when deciding if one parent should stay at home, and "my middle schooler likes to sit in the house alone" isn't one of them!

It is rather amazing the AI guys can declare they're inventing something with a 10% chance of wiping out humanity and apparently that's just . . . allowed. No official reaction. No attempt to stop it. Is it because everyone assumes they're always lying about how capable AI is?

Now in the book I am reading, a girl makes a dramatic speech about how she will speak for others bc she was assaulted before and she was believed, so she is sorry the others were not, but she can help. Very inspiring - except her whole storyline was that she was NOT believed when it happened to her.

I was looking up college literature class syllabi for something, and I found one that ended explaining that the reading is not outrageous and the students can definitely do it if they try and they should devote 30-60 min daily to reading and they CAN totally do it all. I guess it’s bleak out there.

I woke up this morning and realized I hadn't done this week's Fantasy with Friends post. So I whipped something up. Now, hours later, I realize I was going on about prologues and epilogues in my post when the prompt was actually only about prologues. Whoops.

Can anyone recommend a window privacy film that cannot be seen through even if someone presses their nose against the window from the outside? I seem to always come across reviews that are like "great unless you stick your nose against it." But I need to ward off against noses against it!

I see a lot of discussion about Harvard closing its writing center, and I think that's a mistake, but I also remember every time I went to the writing center at my undergrad that it was such a bad experience, I finally stopped going. I gave it 4+chances, and none were good. In fact, actively bad.

It's a bit disheartening when people say they don't like AI writing, but then accounts clearly using AI in their posts (not just here, also on other platforms) get a lot of followers and interactions. I guess many people like the way AI sounds after all?

I'm seeing multiple tweets about how booktwt doesn't discuss books or the content of books. The people yearn for book blogs. The character limit is a barrier, and threading tweets doesn't fully solve it. People want long-form content but don't seem to know where to find it. Social media isn't it.

One thing people don't consider when they say, "Why don't people just read X book in English class? Kids would love that!" is not every book lends itself easily to being taught/analyzed. Can you imagine a high school teacher covering the book for a month of classes? Is there that much to say?

I keep seeing people talking about how books today no longer include a summary of the plot on them. Is that common? I can’t think of a book I’ve picked up that had NO summary at all. It’s just sometimes on the inside flap of the jacket instead of the back cover.
