Nice sunny day yesterday on Lunga and windy but still had to keep emptying trench of water.
We did a site plan today as it was too wet to dig.

Got the tents set up on Monday afternoon before the rain. Guys from the footpath team are here to do some work at the same time.
Out on the island of Lunga, one of the Treshnish Isles, this week to excavate a possible illicit whisky bothy.

Very successful archaeology week for Daniel and the team working on the old castle of Dun dig, at the House of Dun in Angus.

I was struggling to interpret the timber structures adjacent to the 17th/18th c. mill being excavated at Pentreheylin, Powys as there are no UK comparisons but then I had a look at mills in European paintings of the time and it starts to make sense.

Doing some clearing out and came across the index cards for my undergraduate dissertation in 1990. Didn't have a computer back then. Hillfort sites and bibliographic references. Ah the joys... seems quite organised really!
The remains of Carn Liath broch stand on a terrace between the shore and the A9, north-east of Golspie in Sutherland. It has walls that are up to 12ft high and comes complete with a well-preserved entrance passage and internal stairway. More pics and info: www.undiscoveredscot... #Scotland

@nts-archaeology.bsky.social my favourite nature/archaeology example is yours - turf house reconstruction in Glencoe w/ the heather thatch. But the only place with heatjer long enough for thatch today with was Mar Lodge b/c everywhere else is managed way shorter that it would have been 300 yrs ago

The National Trust, Oxford Archaeology and Knepp Castle Estate have launched the ‘Knepp Accord’, a new framework to tackle the nature and climate crisis.

This week, working with AOC Archaeology we completed the excavation of the base stone for Aberlemno 3. The excavation has given us valuable new information & it might even be possible to begin to answer long-standing questions about whether the stone stands where it was first erected.
Busy day inside and outside of the replica turf house at Glencoe today. Story telling, hands on activities and artefacts table... all with a healthy dollop of sunshine!

What a difference a day makes! Sunshine finally turned up in Glencoe. Out looking at post- medieval house sites on south side of river.
Cracking day in Glencoe today. Found a burnt layer at west end of enclosure and Amy got a sherd of 17th century slipware.
Visited by these two today who proceeded to roll in all our spoil heaps.
