here’s the title and the first few paragraphs of my sleepy hollow au one shot! it’s gonna be a long one, folks. tw: blood, gore #reyloww

The headless horseman on a rearing horse with the following text: the devil and all his works a legend of sleepy hollow au for reyloween by ssalemghostss 19.10.26Feathers brush his cheeks like hurried whispers carried on a breeze. It isn’t until the talons begin grating along his scalp that his weary eyes blink open. The ravens dissipate to croak and titter amongst the barren tree boughs. The dawn paints the blood in such a fascinating light. Three bodies this time, all scattered in the clearing around him. Eyes gone, heads decapitated, limbs bent in impossible ways. Blood splashed on the grass, staining the wildflower petals. Staining him, too. He can feel it drying beneath his fingernails—a sticky crust that seeps into his cuticles and crackles when he flexes his fingers. His mouth tastes like copper and ash and his heartbeat is sluggish. There’s also the terrible pain in his head, like a knife is being viciously stabbed into his frontal lobe all while needles pierce his cerebellum until a pulsating, searing pain echoes down his spine. It’s always like this when he wakes. The ravens, the pain, the blood, and the bodies. Every year at the same time, on the same night, he becomes a threat to everyone around him. He transforms into a headless monster atop a terrifying horse. The lack of his head bears one small blessing, at least: it allows him to continue to walk amongst the townsfolk of Sleepy Hollow, a place he’s called home for over a hundred years—a place he can never leave. He can retain the peoples’ trust without any worry; he’s never been anything more than a friendly reporter.
