It was great seeing Angela Merkel yesterday talk about the rationale behind her decisions. Regarding the 2015 refugee crisis she said that it's easy to talk about human dignity when it does not cost you anything. Another when a million desperate people show up at your border. A giant.

On my way to teach my classes today at Durham University. In my morning walk I passed the keep of the Castle 🏰(where students live!), a 1000-years Old Cathedral and the river Wear. Just beautiful.

0f the 1.2 million migrants who came to Britain in the year to June, most (86%) were from outside the EU (10% from Europe and a further 5% were British nationals). Proof, if proof were needed, that Brexit didn't stop people coming; it merely changed where they were coming from.
