Home to the largest & most historic collection of surgical pathology in the world. Open 10am-5pm, 7 days a week.

This is a 19th century pill machine. A "pill mass' would be rolled into a paste like pipe and placed across the brass corrugated sections. The handle would then be put in place and moved over its rail to divide the pipe into equally sized parts which would be rolled into pills.

Wooded tray on a slant with small round brass legs. Handled flat roll in wood and brass on top of tray. Two pill brass holders and one small round piece of light coloured wood.

These fleams were made by John Savigny of London. Veterinarians also had fleams, so during this period it’s likely they were used for both humans and animals. Fleams were used in bloodletting; the blade cut into superficial veins to remove blood from the body.

Small blades in a green fish-skin case.
