We are Trócaire. We work to tackle the underlying causes of poverty and injustice and respond to the crises they create. Charity No. 20204842

Trócaire CEO Seán Farrell knows first hand the heartbreak and devastation Ebola brings, having worked in Sierra Leone during the 2014/15 outbreak. Drawing from our experience of that, as well as the 2018 Ebola outbreak in DR Congo, we know what to do to stop the spread and save lives.

On World Humanitarian Day, we honour the courage and commitment of our own staff and all other humanitarian workers around the world to support and protect those who need it most. In 2026 so far, 82 aid workers have been killed, 97 injured and 39 kidnapped across the world.

It's still happening. Just because it's in the news less, doesn't mean it's not happening. In Palestine, Israel are committing genocide while the UN have found 'hallmarks of genocide' in El Fasher in Sudan. We must keep calling it out whenever it occurs. 'Never again' is becoming 'time and again'.

For the people of Kagaba and Soke in DR Congo, open, honest dialogue has meant that members of both communities can now work, travel and live without fear of violence. Thanks to Irish Aid for supporting this project, and for our local partner RADPI for implementing it so effectively.

👋 Meet Francisca Castillo In Honduras, thanks to Irish Aid support, Trócaire and our local partners such as CEHPRODEC are able to support women in indigenous communities. Francisca explains how this support helps empower women to build resilience and independence.

As conflict, climate change and inequality deepen, and aid cuts continue, it can be difficult to remain hopeful; but steadfast Irish Aid support helps us to channel energu into positive change and proactive outlooks, in Ireland and around the world. 1/2

'Pledges to the Fund ($822 million) are just a fraction of 1% of annual loss and damage needs, and only around half of those pledges ($448 million) have been paid into the Fund so far.' A vitally important article in Climate Home News by Trócaire's Wamuyu Manyara and Tarcizio Kalaundi in Malawi ⬇️

The loss and damage fund needs far more finance to deliver climate justice

The fledgling fund must also help vulnerable communities take action to recover from disasters by giving them direct access to grants

Attacks on those raising concerns about business activities are commonplace. When human rights and environments are abused by corporations, victims of attacks face huge barriers to justice. Read the blog by Trócaire's @chris-oconnell.bsky.social and our Guatemalan partner the Xinka Parliament⬇️

What will it take for the international community to take meaningful action to support the people of Palestine? Since 2002, we have been working in the occupied Palestinian territory and Israel, and we won't stop until there is a lasting and just peace for all.

On the banks of the River Puringla in Honduras, community action is protecting more than water. Working with local partner ASONOG, the clean-up of the River Puringla, is a vital project where communities are working to protect their natural resources. Supported by Irish Aid

The Government’s first of two bills to introduce a state-led LNG facility has been passed in the Oireachtas. In short, LNG = more fossil fuels, more fracking, more environmental damage, more negative health outcomes, more climate-related disasters and higher energy prices.

An Occupied Territories Bill has just been passed, but it's not THE OTB we've been campaigning for. It does not include services. This is a missed opportunity. But not the last one. We'll continue to campaign for the Government to deliver a full, effective and comprehensive ban.

What does rural development look like in practice? For Gabay, it looks like a maize harvest growing from 4 sacks to 14. Rural communities are where our food systems begin. Yet they are among the first to feel the impact of climate change, food insecurity & poverty.
